When my grandmother helped me get undressed – pulling my nightie off over my head, etc. – she’d exclaim, “Skin the rabbit!”

This reminds me of when my younger sister was little. My parents bought her a book of nursery rhymes. There were none of the better known ones, like Little Bo Peep, or Jack and Jill. All of these were nursery rhymes I’d never seen before, and haven’t since. I especially remember one, which I think nobody ever read to my sister:

There was a little man, who had a little gun

And its bullets were made of lead lead lead

He went out to the pond and he shot a little duck

Right in the middle of its head head head

Ruthie saw right through that story!

Most of thoze poems haven’t aged well. I’m surprized they’ve survived as long as they have.

I hope it wasn’t the Caerbannog rabbit.

Just wait until you get to Ring Around the Posey.

Oh dad you should not read that Ruthie is going to argue badly for that bunny rabbit.
