“Out of the mouths of babes…”; suck it up, Broomie. You can’t risk a lawsuit for zapping little Mr. Honesty!

With age comes wisdom. Kid, you’re stupid.

Methinks Broomie proves that age doesn’t necessarily bring wisdom!

With age merely comes age. There’s no fool like an old fool.

Wisdom comes otherwise…and that kid is being a little too wise for his own good at the moment!

I love everything about today’s cartoon! Just look how wonderfully those kids are drawn!

I’ve often wondered if “Broom Hilda” is just Russell Myers in a cramped studio or a huge operation like at Garfield, but in any case, Broom Hilda is a brilliant strip that doesn’t get enough praise.

pschearer, I think the absence of any suggestion that Myers has a team of assistants is a good indication that he does it himself. That’s not proof, of course, and it wouldn’t surprise me if he actually has an assistant or two. But if you Google “Russell Myers assistants” the only relevant hit is your post from last month asking about it. It also brings up an interview Myers did in 2001 where he talks about soebody else’s assistant in another context. In that interview/Q&A, he makes specific references to the brushes he uses and how many hours a week he spends at the drawing board, so it seems like he does all his own heavy lifting.

I agree, @pschearer, Broom Hilda is a wonderful strip. I particularly love the backgrounds, which, as the commentary says, are “an enchanted forest with surrealistic landscapes”. Which are never the same from day to day - indeed, from panel to panel!

I really have no use for Garfield - I prefer Heathcliff, which I know, sadly, is a very minority opinion - and Broomie wins the competition hands down. I don’t read all the comics by any means, but Broomie has always been one of my favourite characters.
