But Elly…you had an evening to yourself just last night when John went to the pub. Why didn’t you dedicate yourself to writing instead of sulking? If you really were that upset with your husband, why didn’t you write down the things you were unable to say to him? You’re just looking for excuses.
There’s only so much you can do in the one-and-a-half hour nap and the three to four hours after they go to sleep–and sometimes, taking some precious time where you’re not doing anything important is critical for your sanity! After a busy day with my little guy, my brain is just about capable of managing the complex process of sorting socks ;-)
I’m with you, KHandcock. It takes most of my energy to get through the day, and I don’t think I could focus on writing, but I guess if you’re passionate enough, you find the time. The most writing I do is on gocomics.
KHandcock, you have three to four hours every night? I have more like 2– 3, if I stay up late and only sleep 6 hours (broken). Now I’m jealous.
And do I spend my hours writing? No, I spend them loading/emptying the dishwasher (lest I have “help”), folding laundry (ditto), doing any cleaning that involves chemical cleaners and I can’t do around the kids, making phone calls and emails that demand more than 2 minutes of thought or quiet to communicate, bathing/showering, talking to my husband (who is a zombie by then), catching up on facebook, sometimes reading or doing homework– some of this is optional, but I don’t see Elly finding it so. It’s very important to her to keep up with the chores.
This Thursday, my husband will be out for 3 or 4 hours. I guess I should nix my plans for watching Survivor and a bath, and have a serious writing career instead. The extra income would be nice.
I thought the shadow child was Lizzie. I’m a little confused. Why did she have Lizzie’s clothes if she didn’t have Lizzie? I think I’ve forgotten who Annie is.
He he. My husband is Spanish, so I already have that. I guess I’m spoiled because I’ve been to Spain so much that I’d rather go to another country. I do like Spanish wine better than Italian, but I like Italian and Greek food better.
If there is one thing many mothers of young children don’t get enough of, it’s time to themselves. I grab every minute I can. I love my children and love being with them but in the run of the day hardly get any break from them (at school age they’re homeschooled). But I would rather be with them all the time than not be. It helps you appreciate the few quiet moments ;)

That little shadow creature in panels 1, 2, and 3 is kind of creepy.
That shadow of a child is Annie’s son. I don’t think the shadow child is a creepy, tho’.

there’s some excellent Spanish wine - I’d still rather go to Italy. Loooove Italy!
