Shadow lick’in good–not!

The first time he sees his own shadow and licks the rock. The next time he sees a similar “shadow” and roars at it - but this time it’s the cave entrance so BC gets a rude awakening! Acting on assumptions can have unintended consequences.

Agreed, m2gym, although I think it’s a little too late in the day for B.C. to be sleeping. Maybe he had one too many Irish Coffees last night.

It’s pretty hard to explain, actually, since humans didn’t evolve until about 60 million years after the dinosaurs went extinct!!

Which is fortunate because otherwise the EPA would be blaming us for making them go extinct!!!

Good morning, Grog……the reason it’s NOT too late in the day for B.C. to be sleeping is ‘cause he had to set all those clocks ahead, and decided to sleep the extra hour that he’s missing!!!! Groan

I wonder if GRONK is Dino for Hello Census Worker

Typical BC joke. It WAS his shadow. It was also the cave entrance. But I still giggle!

I thought it was hilarious, even if it was a little puzzling. GRONK!!

I’m with you, MontanaLady, this morning was painful to get up. Then I had to try to explain to little ones that we changed time. Next time I won’t bother.

All hail the GRONK! And by the way, that’s his name too. He’s been called that explicitly, even by some of his fellow animals.

Dino doesn’t like the taste of the dirt after he licked. Does Dino have to gronk at second shadow with the caveman’s real door? I think Dino must be nuts!

Somehow, I can’t believe you guys never considered it might be DAWN, not dusk; and Dino’s shadow is from the rising, not setting, sun?

Who says B.C. was sleeping in there. He may have just been in there sitting around or cleaning his kitchen.

So this is what indiscriminate licking can lead to? (written with tongue firmly in cheek and mono-entendre in mind)

Haven’t you ever said ‘blah,’ ‘yuck’ or otherwise cussed at something that didn’t taste good/work/or suit you after the fact? Why should the dino be any different…..

Why is his back smooth in the first two panels and ruffled like a Stegosaurus thereafter?

He’s not licking B.C.’s face in panel 6, Joe, he’s licking the rock surface. They are different rock faces in panels 3-6 than in 8-10. He’s walking away from the first in panel 7, and sees a similar silhouette thereafter, but this time it is his head’s shadow sticking out atop a cave entrance.

If B.C. had been standing at the cave’s mouth and sniffed at and licked in the face by a dinosaur in panels 5 and 6, it would make absolutely no sense for him neither to be visible nor to react until panel 10.

If Gronk were licking any part of the shadow other than the small projection cast by his own long-necked head, his neck in panel 6 would have to be angled DOWN rather than up, unless you imagine that he has climbed into a hole in the ground for that panel only. In addition, it would mean that his head has inexplicably grown to an outlandish degree, judging by its proportion to the shadow. Finally, if the sole joke is that the dinosaur licks B.C.’s face and then gronks at him in disgust, Gronk’s postures (feet raised, indicating walking) in panels 7 and 8 are unnecessary at best and misleading at the very least.
