With all the collective speculation from yesterday, I’d say poisoned, with intent to kill, the most likely scenario. Whether they are “civilized” or not, they don’t need any survivors to advertise their existence..And if they are “civilized,” perhaps they feel it more “civilized” to kill them in the colony, rather than to release them to starve to death..As for Jim: Let the soap opera begin..Sarah hasn’t given us any good reason to trust her..But that is something Jim will have to learn for himself..Good grief!.By “painted in a corner,” yesterday, I was trying to say, it sure looks like there will be no happy ending possible to this story..The best we can hope for is for Holly, Wally, and Chic to get out of there alive..Jim might get out of there, too..But will he want to remain alive?
The bug bounced. May be a bit heavy for sustained flight. What Holly should do is toss Jim out.He will raise a ruckus. The guards will carry him off.It will take two because Jim will not go easy.Coast is clear Holly…..follow the bouncing Bug.
I kind of wonder if the eggs really are poisoned. If they ingest poison, they wouldn’t be useful for food stock. And it seems to me that the lizards would use any “food source” they could find. .I do hope that Jim at least cooperates long enough to get Holly out of that room and down to Chic. I suspect Chic may have either sprung Wally or needs help to do so.
Perhaps the Bug was once human, since all the mutations are random, it is probable there may be a few whose mutation went much further than expected. It is entirely plausible this insect may have been someones pet dog.Did the virus kill all animal life?Someone please clarify, I have found no mention in my research of the fate of Dogs and Cats.If the virus did not kill animals, what did it turn them into? The bug is loyal, intelligent, and trustworthy, all signs point to a canid past.If Gustine can become 700 Lbs and wall can go from being 170 lbs or so to a 20lb Cat, anything is possible. In areas radiated several successive times by overlapping blasts, may have built up stronger radiation exposure rates than an area that had only been hit once. What strange throw of the genetic dice may be possible when dangerous energies are more than sufficient enough to put the odds in the houses favor.Let’s put it out there, Humanity is finished, the Topsiders cannot exist forever in those suits, even with unlimited resources. Without a cure, unable to breed without serious risks, the only way for them to survive and evolve is toward a post-biological state. The suit is a crutch, they are being kept alive by artifice, becoming more and more dependent on mechanical means to function. This might be their only way to salvation. But they won’t be human anymore will they? The lizards society of diminishing returns is a horror show of eugenics taken way too far to an extreme. But Sarah and her bean counting logistics will become their messiah with a calculator in one hand and a clipboard in the other. If I wasn’t so sure she was just as cold and calculating as her blood, I would hope she would take measures to stop the genocide and cannibalism.Chick is but one non-lizard in a kingdom of raptors.Yet he exists..His presence is but a reminder of the old ways before the craziness overtook his colony. His parents made a choice to save him from the wire whisk and skillet. The colony but for one, looks the other way at this heresy to their ideals and twisted mores and more or less tolerates his presence.
As the story has developed, I wonder if the Topsiders are not as cohesive as we might think? All the early one had mutts and transporters and plenty of them, but Jim and Sarah’s crowd have oodles of those big drones (instead?) But manufacturing may not equate to population needs. Or maybe a ruthless ideology? (re Sarah as resource liability) I wonder about the suits, as the Topsiders have fairly high level nanotech and the suits seem to be able take care of business fairly well, yet they are surprisingly vulnerable. An oversight or deliberate feature?
I didn’t intend to be snippy. The sun is making giant storms, probbly the reason it was so hard to get online. those storms may cause other types of other things, like migraines or being on edge.
Y’know, re: Linda’s son—-I can’t recall anything actually said about age, though it was implied that he was born post-apocalypse. I suppose, though, he could be a teenager, who got into his suit when Linda got into hers…
For some reason, this morning, I can’t get the reply buttons to work. Ah, well…#Re: Jim and Sarah and their apparently deteriorating relationship…I thought up a possible answer, but since it might involve being kinda, well, clinical in detail about certain physical aspects of certain physical acts, I don’t know if it’s appropriate for a family board…
I’ll Follow The Bug, by JennerTo the tune of I’ll Follow The Sun by Lennon & McCartneyThis day he says don’t eat the eggAnd it’s totally strange, so I’ll follow the bug. This day, you have no-one to hugAnd it’s totally strange, but I’ll follow the bug.It will be over soon,My raccoon, as you knowAnd once we leave this roomTo our doom we may go, ooohThis day, we feel one final tugThen we part in our ways, and I’ll follow the bugAnd it’s totally strange, so I’ll follow the bugIt will be over soon,My raccoon, as you knowAnd once we leave this roomTo our doom we may go, ooohThis day, we feel one final tugThen we part in our ways, and I’ll follow the bug
It doesn’t look like bug is eating anything in panel 2. He would be able to get a probiscus or whatever he has, go thru a stainless steel domed serving plate.
I don’t care what all you negative nannies say. I’m loving this story, and I want to see just which rabbit hole it goes all the way down. “If you don’t like the dark, get out of the pool.”

Right now the biggest obstacle to getting out may be Jim.

“For something edible.” So, the problem is that these eggs aren’t edible. Why not? Crunchy is a kind of edible, right?

The bug apparently thinks the eggs are edible, in the second panel.
