And today IS Telemarketer Monday (along w/the Robo Calls): every other Monday they crawl out from under rocks and other infested places and invaded my office,
I’ll pay good money for a device that will let me push a button and fry whatever equipment is at the other end of a phone call. Telemarketing would stop really fast if every time they call me they have to replace a $50,000 robo-dialer.
If the government charged a hefty tax on each and every solicitation call, I’ll bet there would be a great reduction of those calls.Answering the phone nowadays is as frustrating as collecting all the junk mail from the mail box and putting in the recycling bin.. Ain’t no justice in this world.
I’m not advertising just advocating..There is a product called the “TeleZapper”(I bought mine at Best Buy for $35 5 years ago) plugs in between your phone/answering machine that gives the telemarketers a disconnect signal..I haven’t had too many calls other then a few local police activities league or free mattress company calls over the last 5 years..works good for me..
Agreed – the do not call list is practically worthless. Did you notice that when it was put into law, political parties and charities were exempt? And the telemarketers/scammers get around it by operating from another country (Where our laws can’t touch them!) and operate through a forewarding service (who shows up on your caller ID) and switch to another service when the first gets shut down by complaints, etc.
Also, watch out for “wrong number” calls on your cell phones! “Is this the XXX residence?” Your natural response will be say, “No, this is the YYY residence”Now, by dialing random numbers, they have made a hit and know the name that goes with it – to be sold to fellow solicitors/telemarketers/scammers. (If it’s a wrong number do they really need to know who they reached)
Or give them a fake name, and if someone calls asking for that person, you’ll know it’s a scam immediately!

@frugalnotcheapIf it was not for the dept collectors, the poll takers, and the telemarketers I would suspect that my land line was out of order.
