My husband proposed to me during peak foliage, 1982. It was on October 16, 8 days after my 18th birthday. He drove me to an off-the-road spot by a gorgeous little stream. We had a picnic (although, because it was COLD, we sat in the hatchback of his Renault R5 “LeCar” with the back seat down, hatch up). When I accepted his proposal, he walked to the edge of the stream, where he had used a bottle of champagne chilling (tethered to the shore by a wire). It was beautiful, and perfect.

A good stiff breeze always ruins it.

Sort of like summer in Ishpeming. Blink and you miss it.

He had used the bottle to transport the contents. How hard is it to understand?
