Well! That was certainly uplifting. At least for the beer mugs.

Hey Rat – It may not be unexpected or necessarily tragic, however it will be into utter nothingness so to speak, and no, it does not have to last forever. You can come back to an earthly existence that you will understand, but also one that will not end. And it will be peaceful! And all you have to do to get this is blow the dust off your Bible and actually read it. [now, for those of you about to go on the attack and accuse moi of believing in fairy tales, ask yourself…what has any human ever done to assure the above to anyone? Yet each year or so people rush to the polls hoping for a miracle, or pop a pill hoping for extended life. Maybe…, just maybe there is an answer in “the Book”. What have you got to lose by looking into it?]

Funny, I drink to forget how much people suck, and by extension, how much I suck as a person. Death never crosses my mind except when I wake up the next morning with a hangover.

Two old stand-bys: I drink, therefore I am. (In Rat’s case: I am, therefore I drink.)-Descartes walks into a bar and orders beer after beer, till finally the bartender says to him, “You’re drunk. I think you’ve had enough.” Descartes says, “I think not!”, and immediately disappears.

We will keep living in one form or dimension because we will be taught never ending things of the entire never ending Universe, Evidence of this is not hidden from us, only in the minds of those that already know-it-all

Nothingness sounds ok to me. It’s certainly a step up from any place designed by the Biblical Skygod Creator. That Old Fool botched this place up so badly that I wouldn’t want to go near another one of his unintelligent designs.

As an atheist, I believe I will cease to exist as a person when I die. I also believe it is my duty to live, laugh, and love, to the best of my ability while I am alive. There I people I do not like, so I try to spend more time with the people I like.

ANd most f the religious POV expressed are similarly tirades against non-believers, so thank you for acknowledging the right of each individual to have beliefs differing from another’s. Tolerance is one of the fundamentals we pretend our country, US, was/is based upon, unless of course we don’t agree, right? Then my opinion/belief is, of course, the correct one. Don’t think your condescending words make your belief into more than a belief.

I really like, and appreciate, all of your replies. I live alone, and it is great to have this type of discourse with people from all over the country, if not the world!.My mother put it to me bluntly. She asked, simply, “You don’t believe in a higher power, do you.” It wasn’t my best bonding moment, but I had to be honest. She hasn’t mentioned it since, but we can talk about her religion openly and honestly.I’m 63, she’s 82.

Yes, Rat, some day your existence will end. No comic strip character is eternal. Calvin and Hobbes’ existence ended in 1995. Charlie Brown and Snoopy’s existence ended five years later, and old-timers Maggie and Jiggs ended five months after that..Some day, even Dagwood and Dick Tracy will be no more.

Pretty depressing thoughts from someone who’s probably richer and happier overall than 99.9999% of the human race. However, I wouldn’t disagree with this strip, except for the drinking part. Hey Stephan, ever read Mark Twain’s “The Five Boons of Life”?

Seems to me that we live on after we die. In the memories of those who knew us and perhaps in the memories of those who knew those who knew us. If we are kind to others, that will be remembered and perhaps will be passed on to others who knew us and were kind because we influenced them.
