If only the actual debate currently circulating on this issue could be so introspective, revealing. But that would require the two sides actually conversing, not just making statements.

I am insulted by the name White Sox, so I demand that Chicago change their baseball team’s name.

Why can’t people reach Uhura’s level of enlightenment where words don’t hurt at all?

What I’ve said right from the beginning – They should be allowed to keep the redskins name if they change the team logo to a potato.

I was under the impression that the only ones offended by the Red Skins name are holier than though white liberals – actual native Americans don’t really give a crap.

The NY Knicks derives from the Knickerbockers which was equivalent to the ’ N ’word for the Old Dutch setters of Manhattan Island whom the English vanquished (and who were dubbed by the Dutch, The Yankees——-another racial epithet. The Dutch and the Indians should get together and boycott NYC

Actual fact: George Preston Marshall, who changed the team’s name to “Redskins,” was a bigot who had “Dixie” played before games and expressed ‘interesting’ views on African-Americans. (That’s right, it’s not even the team’s original name.) And Marshall’s own granddaughter has publicly stated that the name should be changed.

Unlike Whiz’s irrelevant “fact because I say it is,” you can actually verify everything I just stated with minimal Googling.

Has everyone already forgotten that beautiful takedown Stephen Colbert performed on a gaggle of typical Washington fans? They were blipping off all the talking points you see above—until Colbert’s team brought several real-life (and not pleased) Native Americans into the room, at which point the happy chatty fans got very, very quiet…until they were once again “safe,” whereupon they began crying loudly about how their First Amendment rights were unfairly violated and yadda yadda yadda boo hoo mah privilege.

And I suppose no offense would be taken if a Caucasian called an African-American a certain term, just because sometimes they use it when conversing amongst their own…

And I suppose if this were true, that one Native American was someone eligible to speak for every tribe which was lucky enough to survive the European genocide.

Took a poll, did you? Would you like to point us towards your research, or would that just lead up your rear end?Face it: It’s a racist term and it’s not even the team’s original name. There’s a reason you and yours are defending it so stridently, and we all know what that reason is.

I once came across a Navajo who was wearing a “Redskins” sweatshirt. I didn’t ask him about it.

“Just call him a Redneck and say is to honor him…”

Yep, the hypocrisy is amazing. All of the same people who make excuses for the Redskins are the same ones who are terribly butt-hurt if they think anyone has insulted them. The ones who always have tears running down their chubby little baby cheeks because they think that “Eric Holder” or someone is hurting their widdle feelings.

Normal people grow out of the “it’s okay when I insult you but not okay when you insult me” phase around the age of five.

“It’s good to know we’re focused on what’s important while the world crumbles around us due to 0bola in the White House.”

A journey into the “mind” of a brainwashed propaganda dullwit, who wasn’t very smart even before Fox and Rush destroyed what little native cognitive ability he had. Or possibly a parody poster imitating such, but I suspect not.

“Obola”. It’s always sad when dullwits try to be clever.

Social awareness changes with time, so terms that may have been acceptable in the past sometimes become unacceptable in the present (and sometimes racist terms just fade from use and become unoffensive, it’s all a crapshoot). Would you call your Chinese friend yellow face or slant eyes? Do you address your Jewish friends as big nose? How about your African or Australian friends, are they darkies? The inexorable tide is sweeping in on the term redskins, either accept it or be swept away.

Every one appears to do such careful research in this comment section, – and they also appear to have wizard powers to read minds to detect intent – amazing.
