Frazz by Jef Mallett for November 30, 2014
Transcript:
Mrs. Olsen: Sorry I'm late. The Burger Bunker line was... Mr. Spaetzle: ...The same glacier it always is. I was late again, too. Caulfield: What did they do for breakfast before drive-up windows? For that matter, what did car companies put where all the cupholders are now? Why not just make breakfast at home in about 30 seconds? Why do we call it fast food? Why don't we just go ahead and call it lazy food? Why did the Stones and the Beatles get so much more attention than the Kinks? I thought I should ask one question that might actually have an answer. Frazz: Try another one.

Answer to question two: mostly ash trays. Yes, cars still have ash trays, but they’re clearly vestigial things with about enough room to hold the ash from half a cigaarette… which is probably why so many people seem to flick their ashes and toss their cigarette ends out the windows. Back in the BC (Before Cupholders) era, ash trays were huge things that even a chain smoker would only have to empty about once a week… and non-smokers like me could use to hold a pretty decent stash of petty change for tolls or grabbing a newspaper from the box on the streetcorner.

I think it would save a lot of gas if drive-thrus were banned.

According to Ray Davies, the Kinks never had the top-notch promotion that the Beatles and Stones had.

If I knew Jef personally, the one thing I would say to him is …dude, shut the hell up! Friends do that for friends.

My Metz (1909) doesn’t have a fuel pump, or heater, wipers or doors.

It won’t be much longer (in fact, it may be here already) when kids will wonder how did people drive (or at least ride) without video consoles.

The Kinks were great, but…the Beatles were better. The Kinks are underappreciated to this day, but…the Beatles were better.

Caulfield, trust me — it takes much longer than 30 seconds to cook a hot breakfast at home. About all you could do in that time frame is spread peanut butter on an uncooked bagel and run out the door.

The Kinks ran afoul of the American Federation of Musicians and were banned from touring the U.S.A. from 65-69. That didn’t help their cause.

1. The Kinks were too quintessentially British for US tastes.2. The Kinks got involved in some shenanigans on their first US tour that got them banned from the country until around the time of Lola.

The biggest things for the Beatles were they sang higher notes, so the teen girls could sing along easier..The funniest part was one of the main reasons the Beatles broke up.They couldn’t hear themselves when they performed at stadiums and such, The girls were screaming all the time..

Anyone who thinks you can make a decent breakfast in 30 seconds has obviously never cooked or lives on boxed cereal.

“takes a lotta nerve to be that sure of how much better you are than everybody else. And to put it in writing day after day.” Mirror, mirror….

Ah the days of bench seats, ashtrays and lighters front and back and cup holders that were flimsy plastic things that you hooked into the windows… my car’s a ‘99 and the center armrest folds up after folding in the cup holders on the front of it, so it’s kinda sorta a bench seat, has ashtrays front and back, one lighter (missing years ago) and still has a separate key for the trunk.
