@Jim Doherty – I want to add my thanks for the Crimestoppers/Hall of Fame panels, especially the very interesting one about Red Tomahawk and Sitting Bull. I don’t think a Crimestoppers/Hall of Fame panel ever got this much discussion before.
DIET: “Yeah, you see Tracy, if you hadnt been wasting your time running down a potential lead on a missing child case that REALLY didnt involve you, without informing back-up, and then disappearing, you might have known that.”
BTW.. I might not be on here for the next few days, my friend’s sister passed away Sunday from breast cancer.. 53 years old… the wake is tomorrow and the funeral is thursday so odds are i might not be checking the boards again til maybe monday or so.
I have to say I’m surprised – I’d expected a lot of comments applauding the decision to drop the time travel concept from the strip. Instead it’s all about smoking (again) and the time machine is getting an, “oh, yeah, that too.”I thought time travel was an interesting idea, but just not for this strip.(It would be more appropriate in a revived “Annie” strip.)
Hasn’t Tracy got anything more urgent to do than to run around visiting the eccentric old friend who isn’t involved with Gruesome (that we know of)? It’s not as though we all were wondering whether Diet Smith’s company was still even working on the Time Travel concept….
The thing I always liked about Dick, in all his 80 years of hanging with Sam & Diet and chasing chain-smoking gangsters, I have never once remembered him commenting on their smoking habits..
I’d thought that if the Diet Smith – time travel bit wasn’t merely a red herring (most likely to make the Tracy-and-Annie-in-1944 possibility more believable), the payoff would be rescuing Brilliant (Smith’s murdered son), just as the idea of recreating/replacing him in some way was a motive underneath the various Smith/cloning stories. And, of course, some long-lost bad guy would inadvertently be retrieved at the same time. But there doesn’t seem to be any good choice in the Tracy Rogues Gallery who’d plausibly be sniffing around Smith Industries at the time, even playing loosely with the timeline.

…and now, back to our story (stories?)!

Evidently Diet Smith knows when to cut his losses.

Diet is full of Goat chips! This is becoming like a parade of stars! Fake Moon Maid and Cinnamon bun should show up any day!

Diet Smith loves dismantling things. Maybe Sam’s little tirade a little while back convinced him.

Diet’s diet must be working! Looks trim in the last panel!

It seems that Smith is a lot taller than Tracy. I wonder how tall Tracy is.

Morning, Tracyville!I hope Diet gives us some reason for deciding to dismantle Project Blue Image.

If Diet is successful with time travel, I want to see Tracy go back to Whitechapel in 1888.

Please, dismantle it, move on from the space stuff, and let’s follow Gruesome, the Blackhearts et al.

You’d think after his recent adventure, Tracy wouldn’t be eager to hear anything about “time travel”!
