It was patched through the PA system of our school and then we were all sent home early(not that any of us 6th and 7th graders really knew what was happening even watching the TV later that day & evening).
I wasn’t born until "70, so I have no emotional recall of Kennedy. I should have one for the Challenger. I would have been 13, but I don’t remember it at all. Maybe it happened during one of our 4 moves that year. Even though it shouldn’t have affected me at all, Princess Diana dying made me cry. I was at work, delivering pizzas and heard it on the radio. I went back to the store to do dishes and started crying for no bloody reason. It was weird.
I also remember Elvis dying. I was 7 & didn’t really “get” it, but I was aware that AFN played all Elvis for a while. (We were stationed in Germany at the time)
J. Short: For the worse. Can you imagine today’s NYT publishing the Pentagon Papers, or WaPo permitting WoodStein? The torture report is still locked up.
At least Earl didn’t have to resort to corn cobs in an outhouse. And I’m not sure how newspapers compare to Sears and Roebuck or Montgomery Wards catalogues. Sign of a privileged life: I never had to find out any of that stuff.

We got sent home too, but I didn’t know why until I got home and saw my mother in a frenzy.

Well…the only thing worth saving in the paper is the comics… The rest is an insult to toilet paper…

I was in Germany and was told by a German. That’s when I learned German has different words for “shot” and “shot to death”.

Yesterday I saw my first paper newspaper in years. I was shocked they had reduced the page size to about 3/4 of what it was.

Anybody know why there is no cartoon for Sunday, Nov. 23?
holmswedeholm about 10 years ago
Seems this happened a couple weeks ago or so. By Monday, the Sunday strip had shown up. No explanations.
