OK Arlo you next line is:“Your beauty doesn’t need fixing up.”

As a widower, just looking is something you can’t ever have done enough.

“We’re not usually in bed when you’re all fixed up.” Any fixing up implies a social situation which brings with it a level of anxiety and later a cortisol crash that isn’t going to put most men in a star gazing mood.

Your natural beauty is much more captivating.

“Maybe, dear lady, because all that makeup does just the opposite of enhancing your beauty. I’d rather look at you than a paint job.”

Trust me….going to bed with makeup on does not make for a pretty sight in the morning…..especially mascara, you look like you’ve been in a fight and lost.

…and I thought women got all “fixed up” for other women, not for men.

I have known some women who have gotten scarier when they got fixed up.

Arlo can’t win this one.

Such a good guy.

If it’s not broke don’t fix it

I remember some silly beauty pageant back in school. Some actually DID look better all gussied up, but most looked worse — like humans turned into dolls..Janis thinks the things that she adds to her package enhance its beauty.Arlo likes the package.

Cain’t win.

Women get ‘fixed up’ for other women. The few men who get all charged up for layers of dark makeup and flashy clothing can find that on a street corner flagging them down.

Arlo wants to see Janices’ untouched, natural beauty at an unguarded moment.

“Because, my love, you get ‘fixed up’ when we’re going out, and I don’t have you all to myself.”

I had this conversation before I got married. Fortunately, she doesn’t mind going without makeup, except for formal events where it’s expected. Which is great. I want to see the woman I love, not a mask painted over her.

This old ditty comes to mind; “Powder and paint, powder and paint..“Makes a woman look just what she ain’t…

The shadier the lady, the more she “brightens up.”P. S. There are a lot of cats in avatars, so I borrowed “Spot.”

As our preacher once said, “Don’t complain about your wife’s makeup. A new coat of paint even makes an old barn look better.”

My mom used to call someone who did something to herself that made her look worse a “swike.”

I prefer a natural look…

Johnson HAS to have been married for a lonnnnnnnnng time to have come up with this subtle yet powerful example of incredible, inscrutable female logic.

Thanks! I just discovered that there were three cats named Spot used in the series. The name was chosen by Data because he looked up pet names and Spot was the most common.

My husband does that to me too. He’ll say “you’re so pretty” (I know I’m not) but I appreciate it after 35 years. Sometimes I’ll say “is somebody standing behind me?”

Oh, Arlo wants something all right. But of late, Janis hasn’t been in the mood for it. Like over the past few years.
