Gunther: "Rosa arranged a ride to a clinic up in the mountains. I didn't want to go" Gunther's Mom: "But you did, for Rosa" Quill: "And to find a brave new you?" Gunther: "Yes. It was a six hour trip. Rosa had the time of her life. I just had... a time" Gunther: "At last we got to the clinic. It was very... rustic" Gunther's Mom: "No computers" Quill: "And no sewing machines, either, I bet"

Rosa: Mr. I tried, to make a man….out of you. Somewhere, Mulan is looking at me in sad disappointment.

At least Gunther seems to be honest about his feelings… BTW, for those who might care, if I suddenly disappear, that’s because Firefox and I are having “issues” with each other…Again! =-O

Thank God there were no sewing machines.

In a way, I’m afraid that perhaps Rosa is going to be “McLean Stevenson’d”, in a way almost similar to his character of Henry Blake on M*A*S*H* with a sad ending of some sort…..– Hopefully not that tragic, but maybe a bit of a sad “write off”, nonetheless…

Rosa’s been spending all her life, livin’ in a Amish…I mean, Rustic Paradise. No time for sin and vice, livin’ in a rustic paradise… </Wierd Al>

No comments about Quill’s quip? Quill just called Gunther a Poofter!

IJB: I am thinking that “…maybe a bit of a sad ’write off.” I agree with you here. Sad things do happen; perhaps this is how things went downhill with Gunther and Rosa. ;)

I got your reply from two days ago and from yesterday also. Due to my school schedule now my mom tries to get me to close my computer as soon as possible. While waiting for the next comic to come out I usually just look to see if I missed any replays on the last comic I commented on and that’s when I saw your reply :) I live in Hawaii and its approximately 8:26 right now. I’m able to view my comics at 8:15, which is usually the time my mom likes me in bed, so I probably won’t be on much longer :)

Gunther left after seeing Rosa with a few days of no shower, no makeup, no cream rinse/conditioner, no blow dryer, no razor, no acne cream, etc.

Seems like they’re really busting Gunthers chops. No respect at all…

Quill didn’t call Gunther a poofter; he’s a costumer and Quill knows that. It’s been well-established for quite a while. I do suspect that if we ever get to hear Rosa’s side of the story, it will be markedly different from Gunther’s, and will probably start earlier in their trip. I applaud her ideals, while reserving major doubts about her judgment.
I’m still waiting to see how the two of them actually parted ways, whether they intend to reconnect at some future time, and on what terms. They had some happy times together, and I think Rosa was a huge positive influence on Gunther just when he needed it most.
I also think he probably dodged a major bullet by getting out before Rosa’s parents showed up looking to defend their daughter’s honor. Unless they are very atypical parents (with an atypical daughter, it’s true), they can’t have been any too pleased at the whole scenario. I don’t think they ever met Gunther before he left.
I have the distinct impression that Bernice “likes what she sees”, but don’t know if Gunther is ready to go there just yet. This, obviously, ties back into my wondering just how and on what terms R & G parted ways. I think he’d be wise not to get too close to either Luann or Bernice for at least a little while now — but will he listen? Probably not.

I think we’ll hear next that somebody up there hit on Rosa and she started to like it.

I have a feeling that “rustic” means no running water, which means no toilets, etc. In life you need to follow your own path, not the path of someone else.

I think the only reason Gunther stayed for a month was that is how frequent the delivery of supplies are from the city.
Sisyphos about 10 years ago
Take another sip or two of coffee, Gunther. Relax. Go on with your story. Don’t let Mom or Quill distract or harass you….This is fascinating. And I hope we get to hear Rosa’s version, too, later on.

I like Gunther just like he is. He doesn’t need to change. He just needs to be who he is – and everybody else needs to accept that!!

Rosa met a young good looking well off Peruvian resident MD in the village with the sane dreams and desire to help she has. He “took her under his wing(and likely more!)”, and she stayed on to be his asistant and nurse in training. Gunther saw the writing on the wall, and came back in the next delivery truck as where thay came into the village.Simple explanation, ties up loose ends!Greg, does this get me some signed artwork???:)

Gunther finally came to his senses and realized that Rosa didn’t care about him at all. He is a slow learner but good for him!

Why isn’t Luann making new friends? Because Greg Evans is too lazy to come up with new friends and new backstories and draw them. That’s all it is.

Doc Toon’s Nuclear Coffee has that effect.

Here’s my take on “The Great Peruvian Saga”. Rosa and Gunther arrive at the clinic and find it “Rustic” but not primitive. Rosa is once again disappointed until she finds that they have no place to stay, no food and sanitary facilities. Gunther being Gunther has to build a hut and try to provide for his and Rosa’s needs. Rosa finds her skill set lacking and becomes depressed that her grand plan is a failure. She becomes morose and blames Gunther for her mistakes and whines and whimpers until the mext supply truck takes them back to Lima.

How come Gunther’s got teeth, now, but nobody else?

“Rosa stayed in Peru and apparently found her calling. So it sounds like it was everything she expected, and everything Gunther should have expected but didn’t for the sake of a goofy story.”.Sometimes we men follow the big head, sometimes the little
David Huie Green LoveJoyAndPeace about 10 years ago
“The better question is why did Rosa put up with Gunther? Is it because she saw him as something easily malleable to exactly what she wanted?”.Had you seen him in the library that day, your question would be answered.(Sometimes women follow the little)
David Huie Green LoveJoyAndPeace about 10 years ago
“Sheesh, sometimes I think you people have forgotten what life was like back then.”.I remember, couldn’t concentrate around them, no matter how many cooties they had..That suffering is currently balanced out by a nearly perfect memory.

“Most people would rather be lonely than miserable.”.It is possible to be lonely while with someone and it is miserable to be alone in a crowd.

I cant wait to see what Quill has in mind for V day for Luann.. I have a feeling it has something to do with a ring.. That would make mom and dad really lose it

Let Gunther relate the tale, it’s a different approach for Greg, and Gunther deserves to put his own spin on what happened. The cartoon character becomes the story teller, not just a player on the artist’s drawing board. Nice twist.

(on “Gunths and Rosas”:) I think, too, that it could be similar to that. Maybe some “shock and awe” if Rosa returns, in seeing a new “barrier” and/or having to deal with “rekindled emotions”, maybe….

Well, I did get all fouled up by FF last night. Same thing occurred in about the same amount of time. Only this time I slowed down my typing and really slowed down jumping from page to page. Didn’t work~~~. What Did work was I was finally able to get Malwarebytes to work! (Somehow it got fouled-up with the FF problem). Ran a complete scan overnight. Then was able to get Norton to do its scan this morning (somehow That was also fouled up with the FF problem), Anyway , I am up and running…for now! ;)
davemchine about 10 years ago
I’m glad he finally ditched her. He was living her dream and not his. Gunther has a very bright future ahead of him using his own talents. He needs a girl that will appreciate HIM.
