Frazz always has trouble nailing the swimming part of the triathlon. Caulfield, who’s now an avid swimmer thanks to Frazz, is encouraging him to break his best time in 2015. The Christmas lights are strung like “water waves” for that festive look.

But what it really means is that a homemade sentiment wishing someone the best thing possible is not worthless at all.

And the “flounder” part? Just a gentle rib from one friend to another.

Is it because a flounder has both eyes on the same side? Swim like a fish, but not just any fish.

Maybe the “You Flounder” part was just a Fluke.

Ah, I didn’t get it until coming here, not just because the “you flounder” sounds like a wish for him to have trouble while swimming, but also because I interpreted 7:30 as a time of day (7:30 AM) rather than a time-score for an athletic feat.

thanks for the explanations in the comments section—turns out at least 3 of them helped me to really get it.

Thanks for all the explanations to a typically obscure Mallet strip…but of course, we should ALL know that 7:30 is Frazz’s best time in swimming and that swimming is his worst triathalon event. Grumble….

Caulfield is also known for his punny humor and so is Frazz. Caulfield said EXACTLY what he meant to say and knew that Frazz would get the joke and the sentiment. But I am glad for the explanation of the time. :o) Now the whole thing makes sense to ME.
