How many parents know this all too well, especially on a weekend morning or at Christmas? Then the kid/kids reach a point where they don’t want to get up in the morning, usually while their still in elementary school and during the school week. Then it’s a new headache for the parents, get the kids up and out of bed, get ’em dressed, and get them on their way to school.
I have a 4-month-old who does this every morning. At least my teens have learned that it is wise to let lying parents sleep (and sneak to computers instead).
My parents made a compromise on Christmas morning. We (7 kids) could wake up early, but had to stay in our rooms until my father gave the signal, THEN we could go into the living room and start opening presents. The compromise was that my parents set their alarm for some ungodly early time, like 4:30 or 5 (after the gifts were all opened they would go back to bed). With my daughters, they can go into the living room & watch TV, but have to wait to open gifts until after my husband comes home from his 3rd shift job.
One comment reminds me of a comic book story of Dennis the Menace. He woke his parents up by screaming, “Santa’s been here!” Henry said to Alice, “How come during the school year, we can’t wake him up, but on Christmas, he’s up at the break of dawn?” Alice told Henry, “On Christmas, he hears Santa’s reindeer on the roof.”

My brother had to be physically dragged from bed during the week…on weekends, he was up at 6 to watch The Pink Panther.

I believe this strip is also a rarity in which a character…other than Snoopy…speaks directly to the reader.
