I once worked in a newspaper (you remember those?) which had a “no forced retirement” policy. As a result, the promotions only occurred when somebody died.
WalMart doesn’t buy life insurance, they are self insured. What that meant, in my case, is that the GA Insurance commissioner said they couldn’t help me at all. They could only interfere if an actual insurance company is involved. All $950+ of my medical expenses counted toward the $500 deductible for that year..Coincidentally, that is the last year I worked for WalMart.
Jeez, reminds me of Cat Stevens’ “Matthew and Son”. Nothing much changes. Double jeez, that song is 50 years old and I remember it like yesterday….Now where did I leave my glasses…..
I was quite pleased my employer provided a 50k life insurance policy, that is until I found out it paid THEM – so they could pay someone new to wrap up my assignments…

Please teach the rest of us how you managed that. Each year, retirement seems even less affordable…

Home Depot is self insured too, the health insurance took 25% of the paycheck . At both Walmart and Home Depot I was an associate NOT an employee.

But you have to give two weeks notice prior to your death so you can train your replacement.
