I agree, Axe. This has been building so slowly for so long, but now I think Jim has the foundation set, and we will get a great show. As always, the art is awesome, but the front porch scene would have a more classic GA look in black & white.
My parents have a parch used to have a two setter on the porch 2nd one 1st one got stolen so my dad secured the second one then years after we lost our dad due to health mom decided to git rid of the two setter I asked where am I going to sit at when itās nice out. She didnāt care. And Iām not buying one.
Not to many home here have porches and I miss a porch, but what Iāve heard porches are too expensive to build I think contractors just donāt want to.
I tagged GA on this site, so they send an e-mail each day with the strip in black and white. Then I link to this site to read the comments and the strip is in color. Black and white looks best to me too, but maybe because thatās how I grew up reading it (just seems to give it a more āhomeyā feel). And it makes the Sunday strip stand out more being the only one for the week that was in color.
Global Warming ? - My brother who lives just outside Toronto had a Triple (heart), by-pass surgery early last week and is required to take āwalksā as part of his recovery program.
We are nearly into May and he finds it too āCOLDā outside to comfortably undertake them.
There are cycles of weather that occur and no - empirical evidence to suggest that Global Warming IS man made !
Al Goreās father got rich off Tobacco, and Al ālocked the process inā by promotion of the ātheoryā that āmanā caused it all, and just as a Bonus - āinventedā the Internet for the human race.
Newspapers have been culpable in exagerating this āman-madeā fantasy.
Devonshade, I guess it all boils down to the Journals and Newspapers you read (and believe).
Itās no secret that many of the āmainstreamā (latter) are really heavily āonesidedā, indeed, some corrupt and we have to wonder - with an agenda ? Itās fair to observe that some readers, start with a predisposition and without a glance in another direction become āfodder,ā frequently being led down ONEWAY streets.
āI read it in the papers ā¦ so - it must be ātrueā !
Thereās a lot to be said for examining competing points of view, particularly in what IS, an inexact science and dependent on the muddle of computer models making āguestimatesā (for those on a Quest, and some suspect, half an eye on ālollipopā funding)
Gore is still to answer the Gentlemanās question (other than with another queastion) on how the Polar Bea couldr be endangered, as head counts indicate the population keeps on growing. Seems theyāre a lot more resilient than a one-seded ad.
Sydneyā¦.actually Iām on Devonās side this time. I donāt know if you had the opportunity to take the cruise in Northern Alaska, but I have. They explained during the cruise that one in between a glacier was unable for any ship to make it through. Now, a small barge or boat can cross in between the glacier with no problem. Global warming is not all to do with the temperature. Global warming also concerns hurricanes and earthquakes getting stronger and more frequent. And we have just seen Haiti go through this as you know.
Another thing, you was talking about your brother having a triple by-pass surgery. Did you know that by pass surgery has to do with circulation as well?? My dad had a quadruple by-pass, and when he was alive, he had to have his showers in almost scalding hot water, as temperatures that is comfortable for you and I was very cold to him. I know, I had to take care of him for several years.
Devon, the āozoneā layer and the āgreenhouseā gases are not directly related.
The ozone reflects some of the UV rays (a cause of skin cancer) away from the earth.
The greenhouse gases reflect (trap) āheatā back toward earth.
The global warming scam is meant to run our lives. We will be told , either by fiat, or by manipulating the price of things. Food, gasoline, utility bills, etc., etc., etc. As an example, lets say that I was one of the āglobal warmingā peopleā¦
Lets say that I didnāt want you using gasoline. I just use the excuse āglobal warmingā and raise the price of gas until only Al Gore, Barbra Streisand, Bill Gates, and Warren buffet can afford it. These eco-freaks will force us to bike to work, cause we canāt afford to buy gas.
Lets say I didnāt want you to set your air conditioner too high in the summer. I use the āglobal warmingā excuse to raise your electric bill til you cannot afford to use your A/C.
Lets say I pushed using corn to make ethanol gas. Now, feeding corn to beef and pork raisers and dairy producers cost more and moreā¦There goes your food bill- up, up, up.
So, stringmusicianer, thatās how. Unlike Bill Gates, most of us are ordinary Joes, without huge deep pockets to buy everything and anything. Youāve heard of āleading them by their nosesā? Well, this would be āleading them around by their wallets.ā
The lying scientists just know that itās wrong, but the statics are being manipulated to prove a point, so we can be ordered, by price manipulation.
I wish you folks would take the political discussions somewhere else. This is a forum for discussion of a comic strip, not an outpost of the Tea Party or Common Ground, both of which are extremely obnoxious to me (though I know where my sympathies lie, Iām not going to share it with you here).
The problem is the words we use. We should be referring to Climate Change, not Global Warming.
Global Warming gives the wrong impression, that itās just going to keep getting warmer and warmer until we canāt live here anymore. Using this phrase is fun for those who donāt believe in it, or donāt care because they can just keep talking about how ridiculous it is.
Climate Change, on the other hand, could be a real threat. Itās cold where it used to be hot and hot where it used to be cold. It rains where it used to be dry and so on. Personally I donāt think we are causing it, this kind of thing has been going on since the world began. But Iām afraid weāre making it worse.
Any chance for us to do anything about it is much less because people insist on calling it āGlobal Warmingā and adding confusion to the issue.
Sorry Luggage - Walt made the comment on Global Warming, I thought I was discussing the comic.
I agree with Roverboy. I get the comic via e-mail, mostly because I donāt have time to read the site when school is in. But also because I prefer the B&W. But coming to the site and getting the color version is a nice treat.
Iām hoping for a dream sequence. Axe is usually pretty good on predicting these things. I donāt see Walt dieing at all. Maybe fading off into the sunset and going to the Old Comic Strip Home, but dieing? No. Thatās when I quit following it. Walt is the thread which ties this all together. You canāt have Lilā Orphan Annie without Annie, or Dick Tracy without Dick. It would not be Gasoline Alley without Walt Wallet somewhere in the mix.
