I agree, Axe. This has been building so slowly for so long, but now I think Jim has the foundation set, and we will get a great show. As always, the art is awesome, but the front porch scene would have a more classic GA look in black & white.

MoParMitch– Yes, when the art is this good, I think black and white is best.

Not to many home here have porches and I miss a porch, but what I’ve heard porches are too expensive to build I think contractors just don’t want to.

Good point, Kab; porches are indeed not seen as often on newer houses.

As Janis Joplin sang, “…my friends all have porches; I must make amends…”

That IS how the song goes, isn’t it?

I tagged GA on this site, so they send an e-mail each day with the strip in black and white. Then I link to this site to read the comments and the strip is in color. Black and white looks best to me too, but maybe because that’s how I grew up reading it (just seems to give it a more “homey” feel). And it makes the Sunday strip stand out more being the only one for the week that was in color.

Global Warming ? - My brother who lives just outside Toronto had a Triple (heart), by-pass surgery early last week and is required to take “walks” as part of his recovery program.

We are nearly into May and he finds it too ‘COLD’ outside to comfortably undertake them.

There are cycles of weather that occur and no - empirical evidence to suggest that Global Warming IS man made !

Al Gore’s father got rich off Tobacco, and Al “locked the process in” by promotion of the ‘theory’ that “man” caused it all, and just as a Bonus - ‘invented’ the Internet for the human race.

Newspapers have been culpable in exagerating this “man-made” fantasy.

Wouldn’t be a bad way for Uncle Walt to leave us. Nice, sunny day, swinging on the porch, lost with all his wonderful memories.

    Peace.

Devonshade, I guess it all boils down to the Journals and Newspapers you read (and believe).

It’s no secret that many of the ‘mainstream’ (latter) are really heavily “onesided”, indeed, some corrupt and we have to wonder - with an agenda ? It’s fair to observe that some readers, start with a predisposition and without a glance in another direction become “fodder,” frequently being led down ONEWAY streets.

“I read it in the papers … so - it must be “true” !

There’s a lot to be said for examining competing points of view, particularly in what IS, an inexact science and dependent on the muddle of computer models making “guestimates” (for those on a Quest, and some suspect, half an eye on “lollipop” funding)

Gore is still to answer the Gentleman’s question (other than with another queastion) on how the Polar Bea couldr be endangered, as head counts indicate the population keeps on growing. Seems they’re a lot more resilient than a one-seded ad.

Sydney….actually I’m on Devon’s side this time. I don’t know if you had the opportunity to take the cruise in Northern Alaska, but I have. They explained during the cruise that one in between a glacier was unable for any ship to make it through. Now, a small barge or boat can cross in between the glacier with no problem. Global warming is not all to do with the temperature. Global warming also concerns hurricanes and earthquakes getting stronger and more frequent. And we have just seen Haiti go through this as you know. Another thing, you was talking about your brother having a triple by-pass surgery. Did you know that by pass surgery has to do with circulation as well?? My dad had a quadruple by-pass, and when he was alive, he had to have his showers in almost scalding hot water, as temperatures that is comfortable for you and I was very cold to him. I know, I had to take care of him for several years.

Devon, the “ozone” layer and the “greenhouse” gases are not directly related. The ozone reflects some of the UV rays (a cause of skin cancer) away from the earth. The greenhouse gases reflect (trap) “heat” back toward earth.

Devonshade said: Sydney Phillips,..over 98% of the worlds scientists disagree with your view.

Hey Devonshade, I believe that 98% of the world’s scientists think it is wrong to “fudge” your data to meet your expectations.

The need to cheat is VERY convincing that global warming is just a scam to run our lives.

    @stringmusicianer

The global warming scam is meant to run our lives. We will be told , either by fiat, or by manipulating the price of things. Food, gasoline, utility bills, etc., etc., etc. As an example, lets say that I was one of the “global warming” people…

Lets say that I didn’t want you using gasoline. I just use the excuse “global warming” and raise the price of gas until only Al Gore, Barbra Streisand, Bill Gates, and Warren buffet can afford it. These eco-freaks will force us to bike to work, cause we can’t afford to buy gas.

Lets say I didn’t want you to set your air conditioner too high in the summer. I use the “global warming” excuse to raise your electric bill til you cannot afford to use your A/C.

Lets say I pushed using corn to make ethanol gas. Now, feeding corn to beef and pork raisers and dairy producers cost more and more…There goes your food bill- up, up, up.

So, stringmusicianer, that’s how. Unlike Bill Gates, most of us are ordinary Joes, without huge deep pockets to buy everything and anything. You’ve heard of “leading them by their noses”? Well, this would be “leading them around by their wallets.”

The lying scientists just know that it’s wrong, but the statics are being manipulated to prove a point, so we can be ordered, by price manipulation.

I wish you folks would take the political discussions somewhere else. This is a forum for discussion of a comic strip, not an outpost of the Tea Party or Common Ground, both of which are extremely obnoxious to me (though I know where my sympathies lie, I’m not going to share it with you here).

The problem is the words we use. We should be referring to Climate Change, not Global Warming.

Global Warming gives the wrong impression, that it’s just going to keep getting warmer and warmer until we can’t live here anymore. Using this phrase is fun for those who don’t believe in it, or don’t care because they can just keep talking about how ridiculous it is.

Climate Change, on the other hand, could be a real threat. It’s cold where it used to be hot and hot where it used to be cold. It rains where it used to be dry and so on. Personally I don’t think we are causing it, this kind of thing has been going on since the world began. But I’m afraid we’re making it worse.

Any chance for us to do anything about it is much less because people insist on calling it ‘Global Warming’ and adding confusion to the issue.

Sorry Luggage - Walt made the comment on Global Warming, I thought I was discussing the comic.

I agree with Roverboy. I get the comic via e-mail, mostly because I don’t have time to read the site when school is in. But also because I prefer the B&W. But coming to the site and getting the color version is a nice treat.

I’m hoping for a dream sequence. Axe is usually pretty good on predicting these things. I don’t see Walt dieing at all. Maybe fading off into the sunset and going to the Old Comic Strip Home, but dieing? No. That’s when I quit following it. Walt is the thread which ties this all together. You can’t have Lil’ Orphan Annie without Annie, or Dick Tracy without Dick. It would not be Gasoline Alley without Walt Wallet somewhere in the mix.
