I’m happy to see the arc ending on a much more positive note. The roomies are getting to know each other. Dez is not the only one talking (although she does have a lot of interesting stuff to say! She’s been a skydiver, apparently, and a mountain climber, and she’s seen a lot of great places. Stonehenge being one of them.)-But I’m also pleased to see that, after Dez says they can tell each other anything, Bernice finally speaks up about the fact that the incense is creating physical problems for her. -Next, I hope Bernice will thank Dez for the ‘hair demon’, but suggest that Dez herself might want to wear it…
Incense allergy is usually not a true allergy, but a discomfort, but if it is true allergy can be deadly……………. most of the time the allergy is caused by “non-natural ingredients”and chemicals……. so actually Dez might be grateful she has a detector of “unnatural essences”, many times the person with allergy can built up a stronger tolerance(but not make it disappear), most of the more harmful incenses are lead based
In my college days there was this guy who lived in a VW van in the redwood forest behind campus and reeked of forest duff. Easily detected by smell in the library, we called him ‘Leafmold’. At some point he found out about the monicker and added patchouli oil/ incense to the mix. Not an improvement, except that we could smell him coming from even farther away!
You’re right about that!!! And it takes skill when the instrumental break is your intro. You’ve got to really know when to “count in” on a song like that. Lol, good thing, too, there was no “Autotune” back then! Can’t imagine the “destruction” it would have caused…. – LOL, McDonalds!
he did more than just being a vulcan………. after star trek, he was in Mission Impossible, he has done various voices in animated series, and he directed many movies, including 3 men and a baby and he wrote 2 of the star trek movies, and helped write in another 2 of the movies
Nimoy had many creative gifts. He apparently published poetry (I haven’t read it), as well as writing two autobiographies.-He started acting in plays as a young kid, encouraged by his grandfather. His parents, naturally (like a lot of those who immigrated in search of religious freedom but also stability) wanted him to go to college. But his father actually encouraged him to be a musician, which is unusual for an immigrant father.-His first autobiography was “I am Not Spock”, and many Trekkies were upset. But I always figured it was because, as an artist, Nimoy didn’t see himself as the ‘logical’ type of guy that Spock was supposed to be.
interestingly enough, I found that 2 actors did 10 or more shows as the same name character, one was the one who handled the transporter who than became a commander of another ship in one of the movies as the same character, he did it 11 times, and one who appeared as same name character more than 50 times but was Jack of all trades, doing vastly different duties. star trek was his last acting role until he did same role in an star trek movie, as an admiral, yet most people have them out of mind, but most people remember yeoman Rand, who appeared only 8 times(but she appears in some of the movies and in some video games as the voice of commander Rand)
I was a Christ the Redeemer in Rio last year, fantastic view of a beautiful place. Around back they have a cafe. I ordered a beer and took a picture of the statue from that side. Jesus, I had your back…
Dez’s stories focus mainly on her worldwide travels. Bernice’s stories focus mainly on her personal relationships. Yet both have their interest for the listener.
The MeTV Tribute to Leonard Nimoy has already begun; I watched Friday night’s episode of Perry Mason, and will try to view as much as I can of the Saturday and Sunday parts….
Yah, I thought Bern was not going to take well to this. So let’s see where she’ll end up moving… Whether she stays “on campus” or not, and/or which roommate (Lu, Gunther, etc. etc). Could go a number of different ways….
The parents of “Dez” must be made out of money because every one of those trips are at least $4K and up to $10K per person. That does not include the usual $18K per year for college and dorm fees.
Dez is a sophomore or a junior in standing. That means Mom & Dad had to cough up over $40K in fees and $40K in trips.
That’s at least $80K to Dez’s adventures. That’s twice as much as the average family makes in the USA per year.
I like Dez. I like weird. I was weird myself at that age. (Hard to tell that now…sigh). Maybe a fragrant oil in a burner would work and not bother Bernice. I think this relationship is going to grow.
The biggest difference isn’t the seemingly amazing life Dez had but rather everything she did was alone. Where Bernice’s life may be mundane but surrounded by friends. I’d choose the latter.
That’s as bad as the people who dump a gallon of cologne or perfume on their bodies and then go out to a restaurant. Synthetic flatulence is just as bad as the real thing.
I agree (re: young people being able to travel on a budget). I often envy the youth discounts available to those under a certain age, and on my travels I’ve met many young people who were doing temp jobs as they literally worked their way around the world.
I wonder where the idea that Dez is a sophomore or junior came from. The fact that she knew Viper, Piro, and Sun before classes started doesn’t prove it — people can know other students at their college from ways other than having been enrolled at the college last year. (And Dez seems to have traveled a lot, too, which could help.)
Also, the 8/22/2014 strip said that Dez’s major was undeclared. If she was a junior she would almost certainly have declared a major, and maybe also if she was a sophomore.
And then there’s the factor that if Dez was a junior or sophomore, she probably would have tried to choose her own roommate for this year in advance from among her friends, rather than getting randomly assigned a freshman roommate.
Let’s assume that in the fictionalized version of California depicted in “Luann,” it is legal to keep ferrets as pets. (This is a comic strip and we have to allow some departures from reality.)
And let’s assume that unlike most colleges, Moony U. would allow students to keep ferrets in the dorms. (Most colleges either don’t allow pets in the dorms, or if they do, they don’t allow anything besides small fish as pets.)
Okay, even making those assumptions, I still want to know: What was the point of Sun bringing a pet to college if she was just going to foist it off on someone else to take care of? I would have thought that someone who brought a pet to college would do so because they wanted to have the pet close by them, not to have someone else keep the pet.
the not major thing Usually means that she is not junior(most schools require major by last semester of sophomore year or by time they get 60 credits) but some schools allow it to be on hold till Junior year, specially if they deciding between 2 or 3 possible candidates that are not eligible to be double-majors to each other or even mayor-minor combo like Anthropology may not be combined with Cultural Anthropology or Evolutionary Anthropology at all, and Cultural Anthropology and Evolutionary Anthropology can not be double major but can be a major/minor combination, some postponements of declaration is because deciding between similar candidates(with pretty much same requirements of classes to take), not because deciding between 2 totally different fields that could have vastly different required classes
you noticed that Zane left the door open for the time that Bern is actually ready? he seemingly said he was not ready also, but was more about her, and he not ready to take care of both of them(as she was not ready to take care of herself emotionally)…he said I am not interested in seeing OTHER GIRLS and he wanted to stay in touch without the pressure of marriage RIGHT NOW, if I remember right, he was 2 or 3 years older
[Looking at Dez’ skin complexion, I’m wondering if perhaps she could be the heretofore-unmentioned sister of….T.J.? (Am I the first to think of this?) ].Well, skin color doesn’t tell us much about anyone, but we do need T.J. back in the loop..We most need Ben IMO. To help Bernice, and maybe to shake up the Quill – Luann axis.
