I think what you’re looking for is the Deere Attractant.

“Tractor Beam” has a full semantic connection to the farm vehicle. A tractor is called that because it is hooked up to other equipment (ploughs, harrows, harvesters,etc) and pulls them. Likewise the tractor beam pulls things.

I suspect some comments will have their detractors.

This comment made me laugh more than the cartoon itself. Tractors pull, so do tractor beams Hence the name.

Just use the transporter to beam it in. It’s too fragile to stand up to your tractor beam. Remember what it did to that jet fighter?

So it appears that the two words are not related; “tractor” seems to be associated with “attractor”, not with a farm implement. See also:

theR0nin - Use the dictionary properly and you will see that anything that attracts something actually pulls that thing towards it as opposed to repelling away from it.

Also do you not find it odd that Attractor and Tractor have only the “At” at the beginning to separate them i.e tension - attension, tend - attend, tempt - attempt, tune - attune etc. They all have the same dirivitive. Which is why it was called a TRACTOR beam in the first place and why it became a dictionary result and Part of Speech: n and why it is hypothetical.

It’s a comic! It’s a play on words! It’s a clean double-entendre. Geez, leave it to the literalists to take the fun out of stuff!

Actually, Karen, the term literalist comes from the Latin verb/noun/predicate “lItarcus” who was the emperor for fifteen minutes (or minitucuses) after Nero was found wrapped in flaming oil by his flaming eunuch Unis. He would say things that could only be taken literally or laterally if he was on a football field (bilaterally if he was in a Disco). Hence the term. :-)
