Thereâs a poster on the ArcaMax site who uses the name âmade of winceâ. I canât wait to see what that poster will say after the âprofessorâ reacts to Luannâs artâŚ
is possible that the wacko prof will say Lue has not decided who she is while the others know exactly who they are :( even if technically Lue did as asked, do 17 self portraits in different stylesâŚâŚâŚâŚ the jock definitely did not but if the emo guy used sharpie on black paper, his drawings might be visible in a special light
Luannâs portfolio is way too conventional for this art teacher, who values originality above talent. A collection of 17 all-black pages, and 16 copies of one picture, do show the âout of the boxâ thinking that he values highly. In his opinion, those two students âcreated artâ, whereas Luann merely drew images.
My two cents on the whole debate about Gregâs teacherâŚ. 1) A teacher has a right and requirement to have students pay attentionâŚ. so telling Greg to not doodle seems like an appropriate idea, 2) A teacher (especially an art teacher) belittling a student about his art is not so appropriate. If this teacher really DID belittle Greg in class about it, that was not appropriate, 3) If the teacher potentially embarrassed Greg by calling attention to his doodling while in class, this could be a reason for a âgrudgeâ but it seems a bit far-fetchedâŚ. and yet the teacher calling attention to inappropriate behavior would be a suitable action for the teacher, 4) Greg probably doesnât have a âgrudgeâ so to speak, but instead may simply be pointing out more the subjective nature of art in general.
âIf she had simply told him to stop doodling, that would have been understandable and even justifiable. BUT, according to Greg, she went beyond that, to demean his doodles as ânot artâŚ"^Exactly!!
âShe was probably annoyed he was goofing off in class,âŚâ^But Daveâs point was that the issue wasnât any âreprimandsâ. She (as Dave already said) went beyond just school matters. The point made was that she âoversteppedâ her bounds, in trying to âdictateâ what was acceptable in matters of personal taste and ambitionâŚthings that are not up to her to dictateâŚ.
Do lefties raise their right hand in response to a teacherâs question? It has been too long since Iâve been in a classroom, so I canât remember. I notice Luann is holding up her right hand. One Eye is barely holding up his left hand.
Again, the issue wasnât on âhow the rules were brokenâ (if any even were .! I donât even think that that was what was being related⌠It could have been during âpersonal useâ time. Or it could have been that he had finished his assignment and was just filling his time until the teacher gave further directionsâŚ)âŚ.
Donât know how many more ways I can explain- the issue brought up had nothing to do with whether or not any âcorrectionâ was justified. The point being made by the author/creator had to do with the subjective criticism of someone elseâs tastesâŚâŚ and is not a case of someone âcan do no wrongââŚâŚ..
Oh, by the way, Mickey Mouse is always drawn with three fingers and a thumb on each hand. So the figure in the corner raising a hand may be wearing a glove, but itâs not like Mickey wearsâŚ
Well then you didnât teach art, as that is subjective. Thereâs not much to be biased about in subjects like math, history, science, etc. Art is all opinion. ^Well, then, you havenât been in a classroom, lately, in one form or another. These days, âopinionâ is sneaking into there. Agendas are being pushed to change certain norms and conventions, things that parents get infuriated with, as then it takes away their right to raise their children and instill them with certain valuesâŚthings that are not for the school to teach, but are for the parent to decideâŚ.
Both Copernicus and Galileo (scientists) were punished by the Church for their heresy of declaring that the earth revolved around the sun, rather than the view accepted by the Church that had the sun revolving around the earth.-Galileo was even tried by the Inquisition, and his work was banned for years after his death. He was not allowed a normal Church burial till many years later.-I noticed that you commented on how long Greg Evans is assumed to have carried a grudge against his art teacher. It took until Pope John Paul II until the Church said Galileo was okâŚ
âWell then you didnât teach art, as that is subjective.â ^Art may be âsubjectiveâ, but itâs also not something where you get to tell someone that their chosen (and favorite) medium is not the ârightâ one. â Much in the same way that if it were a music class, and the person were rehearsing a genre that you didnât think was all that great, itâs not your place to tell someone that itâs not. You certainly can hold that view, and find others who share it, or, If asked, you can share your opinion with someone else to that end, but you canât go around and impose your judgement upon them personally⌠â I donât particularly care for todayâs âmainstreamâ pop music (more so the âLady GaGaâs and the âRobin Thickeâs of the world), and I especially donât like the way that the mainstream industry is losing the âhuman touchâ in making music (i.e. the âcookie cutter approachâ of rolling them out like clones, almost), but it doesnât mean that I can go tell my employees that their music is âgarbageâ. I could say: âWe canât have music in here right now, turn it down, please!â if it were going to be a detriment to the work environment (and walk ins). But I canât say: âTurn down that âtrashâ!".
Careful, Luann! Donât let your work out of your own hands until it has been witnessed by all the class, Zebo is a crazed fanatic who just might tear up your seventeen selfies sight unseen to make some esoteric point!
No. Iâm talking about âpushing certain topics within school subjectsâ. Going from teaching facts and figures to trying to push âagendasâ into the lessons. It certainly could affect someone when it comes to religion, though. And itâs not about âchanging schoolsâ. It may even be found in the next school, if one were to do thatâŚ.
But my reason for bringing it up in the first place was only to address that previous point you mentioned, in particular: "Well then you didnât teach art, as that is subjective. Thereâs not much to be biased about in subjects like math, history, science, etc. Art is all opinion. "
A varied array of examples, indeed!!! â And thereâs also the doodles found within the Lennon family, in particular one from a young child that became the basis for a song (or two)⌠â Not to mention the âdoodlesâ of the then âSenior Lennonâ, JohnâŚ
My point in providing this information is not to compare the church banning of Galileo to Greg Evans displeasure at a teacher, but to respond to your idea that science, math and subjects like them are âobjectiveâ , with not much to be biased about, as opposed to art.-Maybe this comparison will work better if I bring it into more recent times. Right now in the US, for example, there are still elected school district board members (and parents) who argue passionately that âcreation scienceâ needs to be taught in public schools, rather than or in addition to, evolution.-And there are many public figures who argue that whatever climate change we are experience today has nothing to do with human intervention and pollution, so that should not be taught in schools because the idea only exists to undermine capitalism.-Science is no more âobjectiveâ than art. Agendas are everywhereâŚ
Lu, in your pre-school class you always were kind, in order to support the kidsâ efforts. If art is like college writing classes, this critique is going to be merciless. To inspire you, you know. Develop a thick skin NOW.
smh âŚâŚâŚâŚâŚ. the teacher has the right to ask students not to do something( doodle in class, put feet on top of desk, chew gum, etc ) BUT was wrong in telling Greg that his doodles would always be rubbish and lead to nothing; specially if they were good http://luc.devroye.org/DickPapeâSimpleDoodles-2007.png teacher should have said something along the lines of âGreg, these are interesting doodles, BUT during my class you are not allowed to do them, you have to focus on what I am teaching you today, and do your assigned workâ
I was hoping that the teacher wanted something like these http://artnaz.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/art-styles-02.jpg or http://artnaz.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/art-styles-03.jpg and not 1 drawing copied 16 times(jock) âŚâŚâŚâŚâŚâŚ there is still a chance emo did good if he used sharpie on a black colored paper ( could be visible under special lights ) âŚâŚâŚ.. I was expecting jock not to know anything about different art styles, so he would go along the lines of this http://artnaz.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/art-styles-05.jpg
âThank you for agreeing with me. John Lennon could have crapped on his porch and collectors would be rushing to pick it up, framing it as a work of art. Art is subjective, and heavily based on brand recognition.â^That was not in agreement. I was referring to wonderful examples of how one could easily âdismissâ work as being of no benefit, and yet the end result (as time has pointed out) is that other works were inspired by theseâŚ.I was referring to Julian Lennonâs âdoodlesâ in particular, as they were the basis for some songs. But John, by âextensionâ, (as I was also mentioning) also had examplesâŚ
Given the circumstance in that particular arc, Nancyâs mother was âcalling a spade a spadeâ in regards to Tiffany. Though there were also moments that showed she had a âsoft spotâ and a vulnerability. Nonetheless, It was Tiffany who boasted about Luann being out of the camp, and was planning to âmake a moveâ on Quill. at the time.So naturally , Nancy would react to Tiffanyâs dealings in this wayâŚ.
to illustrate what the teacher did to Greg, it is like a student in 4th grade on a math class, and was told to solve 1.5 plus 1.5 and he puts 6/2 as the answer, after doing calculations in paper and the teacher than says to the student âyou are wrong, is supposed to be 3; and should have done it in your head, you will never be a good mathematicianâ
Why do I get the feeling that this teacher has an idea about what art is, and it is not going to be very broad. Lets face it, sometimes you have to just draw the apple and set aside graphically grasping the essence of the apples anguish.
âThe art teacher said doodles would not be considered art for her class, and itâs her class, so there you go.â ^Round and round we goâŚ.. okay, I feel I must respond to this one: Now you know she wasnât referring to it as ânot artâ simply because it wasnât in her âlesson planâ. She made a comment about a personal preference. Again, no one is saying she was wrong for telling him to âstop doodlingâ. Even Mr. Evans wasnât saying anything like that (which can be shown, if one looks directly at his FB post)!

in itself, generic brands are same or even superior to brand names at times, BUT people are willing to pay extra for âthe image of quality and reliabilityâ, and also people equal price with qualityâŚ. in a TV show they showed someone offering a â5 dollar pieâ and a â2 dollar pieâ (they were actually the same, only difference was that one was made round and the other one was square), and over 80% of the people âthoughtâ the expensive one was better than the cheap ones, saying things like this one is smoother, or has a sweeter flavor or it did not crumbled when I used my spoon and so on, and it was not the shape, in the middle of the survey, they exchanged saying which one was the âexpensive oneâ, power games of the mind
most people are willing to pay big bucks for any real Picasso drawing, but would never pay big bucks for something painted by John Doe of East Los Angeles even if you liked more what John Doe painted
âBut what if your employees asked you why you wouldnât allow the music? Would you then be able to say âBecause itâs no goodâ?"^I said it, right there: â(and walk ins)â. And also "We canât have music in here right now ". I was saying that there may be times when a customer walks in, and the music would detract. The point of it also was to compare that situation with the âArt Classâ situation, where one may need to give instructions to cease doing something (âstop doodlingâ/âturn it downâ)âŚ..
people think Hellmanâs list of ingredients for their mayo might be same as one of âkrogersâ but the fabric that makes hellmans gets ingredients from better places than krogers or they think that hellmans call for 2.5 tbs of lemon juice instead of 2 tbsby krogers, funny thing is that we might have that âŚâŚâŚâŚ..armour vienna sausage was made same place as the thirty maid vienna suasages (winn dixie) back in 1990 (used to work in WD at Florida)
And what tickles me about the names of some of the store brand/generic brand items, is that they are supposed to sound so close to the âname brandâ, so that youâre supposed to say âitâs just as good as the name brand!â.. which, many times, is (or can be) just as good! â One example is âSpaghetti-Osâ. It may have a little âcartoon mascotâ of an âOâ. the generic/store/off brand may be called âSpaghetti Loopsâ, and will/may have a similar looking design, and the âmascotâ on the can may be almost close, as well. Or if itâs cereal, it may be âFrosted Flakesâ with âTony the Tigerâ˘â. The other brand may be âSnowy Flakesâ, with a Polar Bear in a parkaâŚ

actually the answer is correct :P 6/2 is the same as 3 , he could have gone on the paper 1 1/2 plus 1 1/2 which is same as 3/2 plus 3/2 which is 6/2

people think Hellmanâs list of ingredients for their mayo might be same as one of âkrogersâ but the fabric that makes hellmans gets ingredients from better places than krogers or they think that hellmans call for 2.5 tbs of lemon juice instead of 2 tbsby krogers, funny thing is that we might have that âŚâŚâŚâŚ..armour vienna sausage was made same place as the thirty maid vienna suasages (winn dixie) back in 1990 (used to work in WD at Florida)
