Ah yes, Old-style Long-Distance Rates!

$50 completely down the drain in an hour or so.

Poor Elly … if she lived in the era of social media, all it would have taken would be a single tweet or facebook post, instead of dozens of phone calls.

But now you’re “published”!

No, John spent $50 bucks.

I don’t get it. How do you spend $50 calling people?

She never was the brightest bulb in the box.

Elly I know excited you did not make lot of phone calls. $50 will not go far.

If this is the 80’s, That $50 is more like $200 today.Now that would be a LOT of long distance calls.(somebody else can do the actual calculation)

if this were real:plus , the 50 (or 200) is incidental…..obviously , thisdoesn’t mean she’ll publish a book and have an income from poetry.she is an amateur poet and the thrill of publication itselfis the major victory

So True(!) about the long distance costs in those days…Thank goodness for modern bundles. But still, the cost of technology has gone up over all, so the tel. bill is just as high today as long ago….

Keep in mind Elly was publishing for some poetry magazine, not Scientific American, and certainly not an economics journal!

She lives in the east and her mom lived in Vancouver, B.C. This day and age she’d have posted it on Facebook, tweeted or G+ poem and all and still had the $50
