Well, this is totally out of character for Luann.

I was ready for the Luann and Quill relationship to end back when he decided it was better to take embarrassing pix of her struggling to climb a fence in her prom dress than it was to help her across the fence.-Now we see more of the same snarkiness. Time for Quill to head off for his internship in New York, from whence he will not return, and for Luann to meet someone at the Community College who actually likes her.

Half the peace sign is better than none. Or…. maybe not.

I am apparently going to be a minority opinion here, but I will have to say that I am disappointed today. Perhaps I am being an old fuddy-duddy, but at least in my neck of the woods and in my age bracket, giving someone the finger is akin to saying the four letter swear word that starts with “F” as in “‘F’ you”. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++Yes, it is “clever” that Greg was able to draw that (with the word balloon covering the actual image itself). And, it may very well be relatively common vernacular to give this signal to others by many folks. But, I (and probably some others) do view it as a very crude and vulgar gesture. It is a disappointing development IMHO for Luann’s character. Perhaps if this is her new way to grow and “develop” we can look forward to her adopting many, many other coarse behaviors (perhaps twerking, or some other vulgar things I will keep from mentioning)?

Not to the extent that my fumorous compadre above does, but I, too, find this out of character. It is not that I believe she would be unaware of such vulgarities. They are hard to miss these days. I just always felt she was above them. That said, it is a cute bit.

Luann is not a pre-60’s girl, or a Victorian girl. She is a normally well mannered 21st century girl, but she has not lived in a closet.

Many “Vulgarisms” have lost “Steam” and rarity and become mainly neutered and mainstream.

Context!

Stick to “The Family Circus.”

These are fictional characters, I’m not rooting for them to succeed or fail perse, I’m rooting for them to entertain me.”^It’s all well and good to “root against Hulk Hogan” or “to be annoyed by the ‘evil empire’ (in sports)” or to not be a fan of the character who “has everything handed to him/her on a silver platter”… but again, though you’re speaking of 2D (as opposed to 3D) characters, you’re still rooting for something that IRL would devastate many households, if you ask for the thoughts of the children/other family who have/has had to live with such effects (regardless of age)….just for “entertainment value”, you say?

I can understand your not wanting “status quo” or ‘mundane, routine. That’s why we take vacations, breaks, and ‘change up" our routine from time to time. But there are already so many bad things in the world, today (assault, murder, etc.) and though divorce would seem “less” than that, it’s still something that shouldn’t be done, just for “entertainment value” It’s good to see some constant things, in an “ever maddening world”. – To help people connect with those issues in a tasteful way, and if done in a way that people can relate to, yes. But to hope that something like that happens, just for a “shakeup”?

But it can be nice when someone actually has the way of knowing vernacular to use, other than those words/gestures, to be able to make a strong point… – Or that can comically encapsulate/express the mood/sentiment in the same manner….

In 1979, what film won Best Picture, and Best Actor/Actress for its stars, at the Oscars, among many other awards?^Remember that I did say: “…and if done in a way that people can relate to, yes…”. “Kramer Vs. Kramer” came out at a time when it wasn’t discussed, and many people could now find a way to discuss it. It was considered “groundbreaking”. But it wasn’t just for “the entertainment value”. – Furthermore, for every “Kramer Vs. Kramer” featuring that, there are many more movies who show families trying hard to stay together, or have the children trying to find a way (in hopes of) to see their parents/families reconcile….

Laugh hysterically or laugh uproariously. Not laugh hilariously. Who edits this stuff?

Never expected this from Luann!

I don’t remember Kramer vs Kramer being a comedy … didn’t laugh much thru it as I recall. A drama has a different set of rules than a comedic strip …. this isn’t a “graphic novel”.^I know. I wasn’t the one who brought that example up. I was merely addressing it….

I wonder what the other students are doing with their paper mache. Maybe Luann was the only one who decided to make a mask. (Bad decision, Luann!)

On a side note, I’m really psyched for Opening Day of Baseball here. Biding my time until being able to enjoy opening day festivities this afternoon, and first pitch! – While not my favorite sport, baseball around here can be exciting, and it’s supposed to mark the start of warmer weather (despite the threat of rain today)!

Not to mention the scene from SOB where she bared her chest.

It’s funnier when it’s hidden and suggested. especially with the quip suggesting what you can’t see. It’s vulgar when shown. Personally I find South Park, for instance, funnier in the censored form that is broadcast than the uncensored form. Similarly, you can get a laugh about something tragic (say the idea of a busload of lawyers going over a cliff with one seat empty) but not the real thing.

It’s funnier with the finger hidden so stop crabbing about censorship – yadda yadda yadda.

-film won Best Picture, and Best Actor/Actress-The film didn’t win those awards because of the subject of divorce. It won because of the quality of the written story, and the high quality of the performances and directing. The ‘entertainment value’ came from those and not from the film’s subject.

According to GoComics, Luann is “Rich in character and intriguing ’what’ll happen next?!’ stories.” Would a “Frank and Nancy get divorced” story qualify as “what’ll happen next?!” How about “Luann and Quill share a one-bedroom apartment in NYC?” Or “Frank and Nancy get divorced, and Nancyand Quill share a one-bedroom apartment in NYC?” What’ll happen next?!, indeed!!!

It makes it funnier though.

Considering his girlfriend’s face today, it’s fortunate that Quill is interested only in “inner beauty”.

Actually, I wonder why he even recognized it, assuming he hasn’t assimilated much of American culture… The “British” (and I assume, therefore,) the Aussie “finger” is actually two fingers. It’s a "reverse peace sign. "

I thought it was a real shame that this movie, which was so much beneath William Holden’s talent, turned out to be his last. On the other hand, I enjoyed Loretta Swit’s comedic performance.

Knowing the art teacher, he’ll probably tell everybody to put their masks in a garbage bag – so nobody will even see them – and then smash them to pieces with a hammer. So all of this will be for nothing, just like the time they wasted drawing 17 self-portraits.

Actually, the 17 portraits didn’t really go to waste. What do think made up the Paper mache?

Sarah Morgan is a loathsome child who makes Shannon Daytona seem like a saint by comparison.

It’s a sad commentary on our culture and society that so many people seem to like this. I know I’ll catch a lot of flac for saying that, but somebody has to say it. OK, let the bashing begin, but remember, don’t let your ignorance show by using foul language. Ready, set, go!

Breakin’ ground! And to those who disapprove, this gag has been used many times on sitcoms — even the better ones.

Remember Dick Cavett’s joke? “I cut off a guy in traffic today, and he gave me the peace sign — at least, he gave me half of the peace sign.”

Had Julie Andrews sweared in Mary Poppins or The Sound of Music, her character would be defined as doing those things.

Actually, Julie Andrews would have gone even further in re: Mary Poppins, if it weren’t for the “Disney Police.” She once stated that she wanted to pose naked as Mary Poppins. Only the hat, the parasol, and the shoes… nothing else. But that would have gotten her into quite of bit of trouble with Disney Studios, who went as far as not letting Annette Funicello wear a bikini until she reached the “age of majority.”

Walt must be turning over in his grave, given what all the Disney owned film producers are churning out now.

It sounds like a perfectly typical “I Love Lucy”-type slapstick sitcom premise to me. Whatever.

The first time I heard her say it, I told her that I wasn’t about to kiss the lips that just fell out of. I didn’t kiss her for a couple of days. Second time, same deal. I haven’t heard (the key word is “heard”) her say that word in over 25 years…

You’re braver than I am. I’d never withhold physical affection as a punishment/incentive. I’d always be thinking… “two can play that game.” And I wouldn’t appreciate it much if it were “withheld” from me, similarly. Nonetheless, everyone is within their right to set their own tolerance levels for such things. In my case, as stated earlier, it varies… based on the person, my level of trust in them, and the context. Probably has to be a pretty serious level of trust before the “weapons go free.” ;-)

And Brad was seriously injured, trying to save Toni when she fell from the ladder. Life’s like that, even in the funny papers. Stuff happens.

Honor Blackman made quite an impression as Steed’s partner prior to Diana Rigg, however.

Too bad none of them could have done a crossover on “The Girl From U.N.C.L.E.”. Maybe it would have lasted longer than a year…

They’re gonna get married, have 3 artistically talented kids. cry laugh fight make up make love and die within hours of each other after 80 years of marriage! <3
