Danae: Ok...it's officially spring now, right? Ned: Right. Danae: But there's still snow outside. Ned: Uh...so? Danae: So...Spring means warmth, not snow! Ned: You should take your complaint to a higher authority. STOMP STOMP STOMP Danae: LEAVE ALREADY!! Snowman: Well, if you had given me legs...

I knew it. Danae sees herself as the ‘higher authority’. If so, why isn’t she solving the problem that the snowman is thinking of, then? Make him some legs. Or, better yet, dig him up and cart him away…

We were ‘blessed’ with 4" to 5" of pure white sunshine. Nice-looking coming down but heavy and wet once it hit the ground. Had no reason to go anywhere so we enjoyed listening to the traffic accident calls on my scanners and my HT. No injuries I heard of but boy-oh-boy the slide-offs and fender-benders! How so many people could forget how to drive in snow so quickly…LOL!

The first part of April is not to be trusted around here. It can snow any time between now and then….

Astronomy and meteorology are separate disciplines, as are atmospheric science and climatology, where the atmosphere is only a small part of the climate, mostly significant as a transport system for moving water inland, a task at which it has failed for thousands of years, as the climate is too cold to support and sustain an atmosphere thick enough to force enough vapor far enough inland to prevent the seas rising and the land drying. The unsustainable water economy requires massive redistribution of liquid assets from the Deep Pockets to the impoverished inland regions, which may only be accomplished by heating the seas.Notice that I put the actual science of climate into my economic arguments, rather than my climate arguments.Faustian bargains require full disclosure, but the person or persons making the bargain must be able to ignore what they know to be right and act from their base nature, motivated by greed, envy, hatred, or other human failings. That’s just how it works. I don’t make the rules.

@BrassOrchid Thankyou for this interesting and useful perspective.

Danae needs a time out.

Snowman/woman as the higher authority? Well, good possibility. Yet not a good solution to Danae’s problem. Being enraged will raise her temperature, but not enough to melt that guy/gal outside. Maybe if she could just get a little more existential ?

The Burl Ives snowman managed to move around without legs.

The snowman has the same failings as his creator. Blaming the creator for his own shortcomings.

The beginning and ending of the seasons are not clearly definable things, as everyone should know from experience. The equinoxes and solstices are simply astronomical benchmarks that have no direct relevance to weather or climate. By my own definition for summer: when the temperature in Alabama reaches 85 degrees F. I don’t care what the calendar says – summer has arrived.

April 1st Overland Park KS got 10" snow back in the 60s.Not exactly an April Shower, but flowers in garden loved it.

Arthur, if we could find that old top hat, he could at least dance around a little bit….He might need to be able to do that when Danae goes for the baseball bat…

She’s always viewed herself as the higher authority!

it’s simpler than that – Spring is the transition from Winter to Summer; some Spring days are going to winterish, others are going to be summerish.

In SoCal, March is usually “in like a lamb, out like a lion” cuz that’s when we get the rain. I hope. It’s been spring since MLK Day here.

R French: Snow is relatively rare around here, but we do get ice storms. In my younger days, I would go to a vacant parking lot and skid around a while to recover the feel of driving in those conditions. Now, I just stay home.

If it’s so cold, why is she outside without a jacket? Either she’s got a bear’s constitution or they have wuss winters…

Well if you had used more hairspray in the 80s…

Oh, so that’s the answer — just put legs on the snowmen and winter will leave. :)

BrassOrchid: There are no “separate disciplines”, all connect at some point by truth..dflak: Ice is not a frictionless surface, merely a low friction one. If you moderate your speed properly, you will be able to stop unless descending a slope you should have avoided in the first place.
