Luann: "I LOVE this girl!"

Seems like Luann’s got someone who approves of the trip… now she still needs parental approval and permission.

There’s that dumb, blasted “pachyderm poop/panda poo” tea, again! (Probably sponsored by “我不知道 [Wǒ bù zhīdào/who-boo -g -dow!],Inc.”) – And now, we’re back to the “plan vs. planned” thing, again…Don’t you just hate it, when the “debate” is tied at 1 apiece, and then someone comes in, and “tips” the vote….but not to your side?
JayBluE over 9 years ago
I guess if people compared Bernice to Simon Cowell, then this girl would be Paula Abdul…. – Or she could be Rob Lowe’s character on Parks and Rec…who could “sell sunshine to the sun”… or even “find a rainbow in a clogged sewer drain”…sorta…

Bernice…it is not your job to parent Luann. She has parents who do a fine job doing just that.

…Is Quill even validated to go yet himself?

Second time we’ve seen the strategic placement of dialog balloons. In this instance, it shows that Bernice’s words are no longer the center of Luann’s attention.-It would be funny if Dez became the kind and sarcasm-free’’ friend Luann actually needs…

Which part of NYC is “full of good vibe,” I wonder.
live2read over 9 years ago
I normally don’t quote from the Bible, but this seems appropriate: “When I was a child, I spake as a child, I thought as a child, but when I became a man, I put away childish things.” But re-worded for this comic, it would read like this: “When I was a child, I spake as a child, I thought as a child, but when I became a woman— Wait. I’m a still a girl, so I can still talk like a child, scream like a child, think like a child, and be delusional like a child. Never mind!”

Luann is living in her parents’ house and fully dependent on them as far as I can tell. Luann is still an immature baby, really.
Funny how some people think having two feet on ground means Bernice is a bad friend…

Doubtful that Luann has money to go to New York. Money Luann earned working with kids was probably spent at American Apparrel. Quill’s Dad may help with his expenses – doubtful Luann’s. However this is a comic strip. They could run around NY together without us ever finding out how it was paid for. The only thing we can be sure of: a different arc coming up.

Well, Dez is positive and enthusiastic and supportive, and that’s all a great relief from Bernice’s glum realism. But is Dez any more thoughtful about the Great NYC Adventure than Luann at this point, or is she just providing earth-motherly soulful reinforcement to whatever (she thinks) Luann has planned?

“I am not sure if Dez’ approval means Evans wants us to think this is a great plan, or if Evans wants us to think it is an idiotic plan.”
Maybe he just wants us to decide what we think.

I guess NYC has this vibe because the people are so darn friendly. Especially to outsiders.
JayBluE over 9 years ago
“still, the NY internship is not a “given”….not yet …. note her saying Quill and she “could” be ……”^Yup!! Perhaps in Dez’ estimation, the words “Quill!” and “could” didn’t have their tickets to ride on the train of thought from Luann bound for Dez’ “cognitive factory”…

Thank you, and I noticed!

“I guess NYC has this vibe because the people are so darn friendly. Especially to outsiders.”^Just ask all the celebs asked to describe their take on NY, including Taylor Swift! (though I"m not sure if any of them dared to “take on” a description of anything outside of Manhattan)….

I was not aware Lu was out of the house. She’s in community college and seems to report home regularly. So her parents are able to say, "Have a nice trip dear, and find your own place to live when you return. "

Most peoples’ idea of NY is just Manhattan. Wait till they cross the Hudson or the East River… a lot to see! And some you’ll want to not see, too….

Luann needs someone sensible like Bernice in her life. Someone to ground her and ask the smart questions. Hopefully Dez will make Luann ask herself some questions about her plans for the trip.

When my future husband turned 18, he hitchhiked from California to New York City, with no plan whatsoever. He said, “On your first day in New York, you get everything you ever wanted. On your first week in New York, you get you get everything you never wanted.” Whatever the case, it was a major learning experience for him, critical to his growing up. With or without Quill, Luann is in for an adventure.
And like I said, Dez is going to be Bernice’s Peru.

Bernice is the voice of caution and reason. Dez is the voice of following your heart and taking what comes. There’s room for both in the world. If Luann understands that she’s responsible for the consequences of her choices and is willing to deal with those, I’d say listen to Dez.

Thanks! – Yeah….great shows, and I love their sense of humor, combined with some realism! And they also use a bunch of references (from pop culture to current events to “etc”) to boot! – Every city has it’s share of problems (whether a small town one or a budding Megapolis). But they also have their treasures!

Girls of that age should be titillating, just walk around a mall and take a look. A girl should look better in a t-shirt than I do and be aware of it. If that doesn’t interest you, then hang around a “ladies’” bowling league or soft ball league. Man, those bulls scare me.

if Dez is perceptive enough to sense Luann’s confused nature then she is equally perceptive in realizing that the only way help someone resolve that and gain confidence is to first befriend.. Bernice might learn something from Dez too (since she wants to be a psychologist) i.e. that if she wants to help people sort out emotional problems, tearing them down all the time will not work.
JayBluE over 9 years ago
Bernice “busts” Luann ALL THE TIME. Luann does it very, very rarely.^She just did, yesterday, for being all “realistic” and not “supportive”, as you yourself have stated….not in “salty” terms, but she did , nonetheless. – And even if not with Bernice on a regular basis, as you would probably have agreed in the past, she has been salty with Tiffany (one example just off the top of my head, is when she had to rub Tiff’s nose in the fact that she had Quill, when Tiffany tried to show that her Prom Committee duties were important, during their “prom priorities” discussion…..
