Tracy was perplexedLike when he tried to textHe never understood how all the words he typed got sentHe doubted that gold could flyOr wave it’s hand goodbyeHe feared the answer he did seek would not be coming nighPerhaps those left will knowWhere all the gold did goHe hope he could avoid the need to vote some off the showHis buddy OCD Though not his cup of teaMight be the only one to solve this golden mysteryLet’s start this march aheadSo soon he’ll rest his headAway from all this madness and upon his comfy bed.

Nigh makes me sigh and I don’t know why, bye bye!

Does the mention of “survivors” mean that some of the train crew was killed?

I’m willing to bet at least one of the robbers is either a disgruntled rail or an ex-rail. Or a disgruntled rail in the process of making himself an ex-rail, like the guy a while back who stole one of his company’s locomotives and took it on a joyride.

If that gold car was at the far end of the consist, theoretically someone could have cut the air and lifted the pin while it was stopped, and the crew up on the head end would have been able to take it away none the wiser. But if it was in the middle or close to the head end… the plot thickens.

There was an episode of BANACEK where there was a very complex train robbery similar to this.

There was an episode of BANACEK where there was a very complex train robbery similar to this.____________________

According to the wikipedia entry for Banacek, that episode drew inspiration from a short story by British author and railway expert Victor Lorenzo Whitechurch which featured his fictional detective Thorpe Hazell

Five Thorpe Hazell stories were adapted for BBC Radio 7 from 2008-2012, read by Benedict Cumberbatch.

I find it hard to believe that the Tracyville Sunday Times would headline the stolen gold and not fatalities.Perhaps Dick is referring to some gold bars that escaped! You know I don’t think he ever finished that cup of coffee the other day! LOL!

Mike might have chosen to keep the word count down by using “Survivors” as opposed to a more unwieldy phrase, such as, “Those injured in the crash.”

Space is always at a premium in daily comic strips.

    Or …

… he might be messing with our heads.

I counted 91 words today, but quickly, so not sure it’s accurate.

“Survivors” definitely implies to me that there were some who didn’t survive. Otherwise, “witnesses” would’ve been sufficient.

Thank for the summary yesterday on the Sherlock plot. Hopefully, the mechanics of this story are not too far-fetched.

N.G.49, the great word choices and play on words makes this a really good poem. The rhyming and again your word choice makes this sound so professional. Almost like you are a writer or at least have some sort of professional experienced in doing so

Good job to ALL the amateur bards today, beginning with Stilldamatt and ending with NG! SDM is getting so polished that the day is drawing near that he won’t have to ride the rails to that filthy job in the city and instead, stay home and sell his verses to the hungry publicus maximus. An extra helping of dessert to SDM for his being the first to spot that horrible word, “Survivors”.

The longer this arc goes on, the dumber it is making the South American owners (cartel?) appear. Next thing you know, it will have been shipped in an open gondola or on a flatcar. They shoulda called it the “Bling Train” and run it through Mardi Gras on the way north.

Thinking more about this, I think there probably was a wreck. I just noticed that the survivors are not able to be questioned right now. It certainly implies possible serious injuries to the survivors. It could mean that police investigators have not been able to question them yet, but it wouldn’t be phrased the way that it is, if that were the case.

Given the advance publicity, it seems inconceivable that one or more guards were not present in and around the car with the gold. It also seems that the details of the M.O. should be present in the story of the 1924 crime that was copied.

Could Wendy Wichell be behind that ?

Seems unlikely. It would be an unnecessary complication in this story.
