Drawing this one, I started thinking about how well “Bewitched” might work as a daily comic strip. Four panel, gag-a-day (with occasional week-long storylines), drawn in the style of the Hanna-Barbera opening animation, I think it could last.
If Universal wants to get the comic rights from Sony, and pair me up with an artist who can do Hanna-Barbera, I’d love to write it.
Serena, not Sabrina. Sabrina was the Teenage Witch from “Archie”!
I had the great pleasure of meeting Agnes Moorehead (Endora) when I was about 13 or 14. She played Dona Anna in the play “Don Juan in Hell” – opposite Ricardo Montalban as Don Juan and Edward Mulhare (from “The Ghost & Mrs. Muir”) as the Devil!
Ms Moorehead was in her early 70s then, and she was just the nicest, most gracious lady – happy to shake hands & sign autographs for a bunch of little Stage-Door Janies after the show. She was one of the first “big stars” I ever met in person, & I’ll never forget it.
She was also a tiny little petite woman! Funny, because on “Bewitched,” she always looks so big & physically imposing! Of course, she has the big hair, flamboyant makeup, big flowing caftans….and she was usually sitting on some tall furniture or floating up by the ceiling :-)
Mr. Mulhare also came out to talk to us, and signed autographs. Ricardo Montalban, OTOH……stayed inside the theater until we little fans had to run for our bus! We looked back from the end of the alley and saw him scuttling out the stage door to his waiting car. What a schmuck!
Susan001: No, I mean drawn in the style of the opening credits Hanna-Barbera did for “Bewitched” back 40 years ago. Those cartoon versions of Samantha and Darrin (Dick York’s Darrin) are iconic, and would be naturals for a comic strip.
I still watch those old reruns at bedtime (my upstairs TiVo saves those and old Monty Pythons as well as just the new Sunday Simpsons and Family Guy). I don’t think it would be difficult to draw stills in that style; I think doing it daily would not be as much fun though - I like to vary my projects ;-)

I had a hard time finding Mac Davis’ “It’s Hard to Be Humble” earlier this week. Be glad that’s not playing over and over and over….
