so if someone has no proof of citizenship what happens? What happens to foreigners that speak American English well….also, What happened to due process….how is the patriot act in this? and is Arizona really going to take funds away from violent crime prevention and prosecution to focus on a job that is federal jurisdiction?

Luckily under this law, no one will ask for you papers unless you are stopped for breaking another law. Therefor—

As I said recently, a cop can always find a reason to stop you. Two MPH above the limit? Spit on the sidewalk? Hanging around with intent to loiter? Etc. No big deal with decent cops, but always a problem with the bad apples.

However, I also said I was waiting for the racism of this law to be exposed when they started stopping the first (Asian) Indians and Pakistanis, but based on recent events, maybe stopping Pakistanis isn’t such a bad idea.

Arizona should do what Florida’s been doing for years - build more Gated Communities for folks to live in. I lived in one (apartment complex) once. Had a key card to enter the gate along with a Security Guard to screen visitors. It’d be a lot easier to manage & the residents can pay for that “Extra Secure Feeling”.

Of course now we all know that Arizonians pack guns - who would want to live there and risk getting shot by “friendly fire”.

The only good thing about the Arizona S.B. 1070 law is that maybe and I said maybe it will spur the Congress to address a problem that has been growning since the Mariel boatlift under Ex-Pres Carter. Still if there are not stiff penalties for employers, forcing illegal immigrants to move to the back of the line as far as applying for legal citizenship and some form of National ID it will be doomed to failure. Conservatives will fight the penalties against employers and Liberals will fight restriction against illegal immigrants and Libertarians will fight the idea of a National ID. So pretty much it’s doomed before it starts with the current toxic environment in Washington today.

Lewreader, I assume you were being sarcastic.

Anyone who doesn’t think there will be multiple “stoppages” in Arizona simply for “breathing while brown”, is naive.
