I’m certainly glad that it’s not the East Side, they’d be in the lake….
One minute they’re rehearsing, the next minute the play is ongoing. Funny how time jumps for certain things in this strip, and drags for so many others…
“One minute they’re rehearsing, the next minute the play is ongoing. Funny how time jumps for certain things in this strip…”
In movie lingo there are “jump cuts,” meaning that when the POV changes to another camera during the same scene, some things don’t match up. For example, in a medium shot someone is holding a cigarette but in the close-up the cigarette is suddenly in his mouth. This strip is just a series of jump cuts, especially in the metaphysical sense. Buildings contract and expand, time slows down to a drag then suddenly leaps forward into the future.
During the Moon Maid era the strip “jumped the shark,” as they say in TV lingo. It went too far. I joke around about seeing Moon Maid again but as over-the-top that was, it sure beats this stuff. With Locher Tracy hit the water after jumping the shark and the shark ate him.
Third panel: just below the word balloon. See the face in half-shadow? Notice the shape of the eye. Spider-Man is grinning because this strip is lamer than his own.
And what’s with the old phone? Is Tracy still fighting crime at age 80?
Just how OLD is Dick Tracy.
He is involved with the grandson of an arch enemy and is using a candlestick telephone, as he had in the past.
He could be Walt Wallet’s brother.
If so, he looks bleeep good for 110.
Maybe tracy is an Immortal ala The Highlander, and periodically need to lob a head off to keep his youth!
Now…Down to the West Side(so no East Side Kids!).
And again I digress (borrowed that from a recent commercial) Tess is at a safe place because of the threats and signs etc. That is why she isn’t there…I know it was soooo long ago we forgot.
At least those old UPA Dick Tracy cartoons were intentionally silly and done for laughs. They were also fast-paced and fun for fans of early TV animation. This incomprehensible mess of a plot (like all the Locher plots before it) is just inane and ridiculous and moves at the speed of a tortoise with three wooden legs perched atop a molasses glacier. ‘Nuff said.

“The West Side?”
Is this that musical where the two gangs square off and do dance numbers in lieu of having actual knife fights?

The Science Museum auditorium is packed! That’s the trouble with shows at science museums… they’re really popular.
Love the retro telephone!

This story takes place so far in the past that Tracy didn’t even have his wrist genie.

Once Tracy gets to The West Side, we will see him singing, “I feel pretty, oh so pretty and witty and wise….”

The retro telephone is a stile known as a candlestick.
No two way wrist radio ether.
Classic Tracy with modern artist.

But where is Tess thought she would be in the front row (?) she was so fired up that Dick had decided to take the part.

Anja Nu thinks Tracy is looking “so cool” … What will she think when just up ahead he starts to RUN to HIDE like a fool ?

Where are the bushes he uses to hide behind? Johnny Nothing is really smart……….. there won’t be any witnesses.

Bleeped for using “darn”, good grief! Guess I can’t talk about darning my socks, then. Oh, wait, “darning” is OK, but “darn” isn’t? FTW??

if you are being bleeped for the word that rhymes with yarn, the you might as well go whole hog and say: motherbleeper
