Usually a dealer in some small Midwestern city will not only get low-balled, he most likely will sell to a big-city or known specialist dealer…. it might pass through several hands before it gets to the sort of customer who’ll pay top dollar.
This fellow could easily get stuck getting less than half of so-called book value…so IF he pays cash at all… he will offer you about 25%.
But on a big-ticket item, it’s way more likely he’d offer consignment….that way, he takes less risk, and you get more money…usually about 50 to 60% of what he sells it for…after you share the fix-up costs, or accept a lower percentage in your agreement…
And I hate to say it, having been a collectibles dealer a lot of my life…there are many out there who would have just handed her the 10 bucks and the harmonica, while pretending to be losing on the deal.
one minor detail – I don’t think (not certain, admittedly) he can buy it directly from a minor, at least for such a large sum, so she’ll have to bring in her grandmother
I like this strip quite a bit, but it would please me no end to see a break in their continual bad luck.Consider, Tony, that twelve grand is not going to change their lives but it will make for a few improvements …
Hey Susan! Yeah, I don’t often comment but she is in my queue since WAY back when! I have a feeling she will “blow this one” but maybe Tony will surprise us and take us in a new direction! :-)

That’s pretty amazing…. and way more than fair.

I imagine they would spend that money very quickly just on current needs. I hope it moves them in the right direction though. We shall see…..

Some good luck for a change! Can’t wait to see what granny has to say! Trout needs a bonus too, for listening to Agnes play!

Wonder if Tony is as big a fan of Pawn Stars as I am. This guy is starting to sound like Rick

Agnes is going to be a Nitt and blow this. Where is Trout when we need her?

Oh, Agnes, go for it!!

I hope Agnes doesn’t end up playin’ the “I Only got Ten Dollars and this Harmonica” Blues. For Trout’s sake, too!
