It is the second link that ElDo Disc Golf posted that shows a comic with a representation of “the Fake Rock Star.”
…but you are right, Axe does not look that much like Mr Pandolph, either the avatar used for his post or the representation in the other comic. When compared, the resemblance becomes superficial at best.
I think that avatar, which Corey used in a number of strips for quite a while, is merely a flattering angle reproduced in ultra-high contrast, so that it happens to make him look bony-faced (plus, it makes him look way cool). When he used to post on Flickr, he never looked as thin as in that shot.

Well, there was only the one candle. As for hating surprises, I think it’s more likely he hates failed attempts at surprise.
