Hey, Farleyās just checking his e-mail (seriously, heās reading to see what other dogs have been there lately ā itās like the canine equivalent of a message board!)
Sometimes a dog just likes to get out and check on the neighborhood. I like that better than when my dog has to leave āreturn messagesā at every house. I hate when the neighbor catches your dog peeing on her pristine landscape!
Wouldnāt John be just a little young to be having prostate problems at this point, howtheduck? Youāre forgetting that when Lynn rebooted the strip, she also sent everyone (including the readers) back in time about 25 years. That means that John would only be in his late 20s or early 30s right now, and while I suppose that men could have prostate problems at that age, itās highly unlikely (and not even Elly would be cruel enough to laugh at such a serious issue in any event!).
And itās pretty clear to me what John said, even though we donāt hear it. You can see him getting more and more impatient because Farley insists on taking his time poking about instead of getting right to business, so I wouldnāt have to hear his diatribe to know that he was complaining about the fact that Farley made John waste so much time by not just going and getting it over with!
I think itās a little more than a āpee breakā for Farley. Heās checking out the neighborhood graffiti and enjoying a nice walk. Itās his humans that have to schedule everything and keep to the clock. Geez enjoy the scenery for a change.
What makes it funny is that itās not the sort of thing that you would expect a six-year-old boy to say. Iād have burst out laughing, too, if I were Elly!
Putting it another way, youāre reading more into the punchline than I think is warranted. Thereās no word play involved here; itās simply the fact that a six-year-old boy blurted out something that most adults wouldnāt have dared to say out loud.
howtheduckā¦ good grief! āThe strip relies on the reader filling in their own funny straight lineā. Sometimes, thatās what the artist intends! If youāve been reading comic strips for any length of time, that should be quite obvious.
But, anyway, do you not see John pointing at his watch with a look of disapproval on his face? I think, to most people, that would imply something along the lines of āThat took way too much time.ā Then, in turn, Michael belts out with his āBut, daddyā¦ā remark. Pretty cut and dryā¦ for those of us who donāt take these strips too seriously!
I gotcha. And I guess I was a bit contradictory with my two points. My apologies for that.
Overall, I think the artist had a specific point/punchline in mind, but left it somewhat open so the readers could use their own imaginations. Thatās what can be so great about comics, and why I was a little taken aback by your overall seriousness with this strip and the comments. I just wish many people on here would loosen up a bit and enjoy it for what it is. Thatās why I rarely comment!

How to say this on a family site? Some of us older guys take a long time to go #1.

family site? oh , is it naughty to say or imply poopie and peepee?
for godās sake, make sure the family is protected from such inferences
by the way, if we do not eliminate, we die.

I do some of my best reading in the bathroom and I like to turn on the fan to drown out all outside noise. Itās like creating your own cocoon.
