Technically he didnt save the world, he just fled from the old one still in flames. To save the world (this timeline at least) he has to prevent the cat from being found and put in a certain someones hands.

..only if he had dimensionally time shifted instead of actually going back into his own time line…as in the movie Edge Of Tomorrow…what happened to those times when the day was reset?If you change time…then that timeline never happened…I could have swore I set my keys down by the computer…I’ll go back in time…aaah,there they are..
