He’s probably safer standing in one spot than wading through the water and risking the possibility of being swept off his feet by the whirlpool. The “hill” right be there is very steep. The helicopter should be able to rescue him easily enough.
Good morning Tracy fans and the ‘Ever Wise’ Gweedo. Ted will be saved and (as some have suggested) Jimmy will go done the drain. Have an awesome day everyone.
Like I was saying a couple of days ago, Tracy would recognize Jimmy Choo Shooz long before they’d pick him up in the helicopter. I wonder how Jimmy’s little boating excursion is going. I suppose he’s planning to leave the lake via the creek that drains it under Ted’s snazzy house. That’s if the motor is more powerful than the whirlpool, which is highly unlikely.
If the ground is already moving, it doesn’t bode well for Ted’s house and studio.
They are in no position to make a rescue unless they have some special equipment on board. I mean isn’t that like something special to make a chopper rescue with untrained personnel. It’s hard enough if you know exactly what to do.
Hay NightShade09 I want to answer your question about comparing Japanese companies vs American companies and safety and all. Ohbayashi Gumi was safety minded enough I guess but they were so cheap, stingy and more apt to step over a hundred dollar bill to save a dime every time. Like I said they had us driving a tunnel with flashlights and believe me that is totally ignorant. I have a hundred war stories I could tell about that job. I did love Utah and the people were absolutely wonderful. We lived in Heber City and Provo altogether about five years and we never locked our house and the cops were the best folks I have had to deal with with. The ones that we met were true peace officers and everyone loved them and counted on them. Great people, and I kind of wish we never left the west, but all of our family is back here. My bride bought a new car in 1998 and we went on vacation and visited back there that year.
I did have one guy in Utah that I could not get along with his name was Lee Reneger and he was bowlegged, knock-kneed, cross eyed, hump backed, pigeon toed, long haired, baud, too skinny, fat butted, false teeth that did not fit with bad breath. He was very mean spirited and nobody liked him or wanted anything to do with him. He did make an effort to make my job harder than it already was … believe me he did live to regret that..That is where I got saved in 1984 and I totally forgave him and from that time going forward I never thought about him until now actually. .The Japanese transferred him to California because he ended up costing them a fortune with some of his decisions. This guy was what we called No mining, and to a hard rock miner that is the worst thing to be called. Not one time in my hard rock mining career was I ever called no mining..I have know a lot of no mining sons of guns in my life but on the same note I have know some serious, awesome, bad to the bone rock breaking guys that would stand flatfooted look the devil right in the eye and not back down to anything except maybe a helpless child or an elderly person and at the same time they were brave but humble.
Some famous Hard Rock Miners that I truly loved and worked with were; Bob Wagner Wells, Charlie Bateman, Mitch, Randy & Harry Counts, Chad Hardman, Calvin Monk, Milton Jay May, Lee Roy Roberts, Tom Nearhood, Clair Crum and one of my heroes and favorite hard rock miner of all time Glenn Eller we called him Junior and I loved that man (may he rest in peace) Junior could not read or write but he was one of the smartest and bravest people on earth that I ever had the honor of knowing and working with.
It seems like the chopper pilot knows what he’s doing. It doesn’t look like there’s any place left to land, but he can probably throw down a ladder or something. For Ted’s sake, let’s hope that goes better than throwing down a ladder to Joel has worked the last several days over in the Gasoline Alley strip.
The cop copter pilot is laconic but seems skilled at his job, so Ted Tellum stands [small pun] a chance of being rescued from the very sudden and powerful maelstrom. Jimmy Choo Shooz, however, seems doomed to descend to a watery grave.Tracy can’t save them all, all the time. And Jimmy is expendable. Maybe in the aftermath of the ground-shudder the gold will turn up, as it were on its own….
Seems something of a “contradiction” that the land bank where Ted Tellum is standing is flooding with water (and ‘knee deep’) - while there’s a vortex out on the Lake, with a Whirlpool sucking water DOWN, not UP, to flood any land areas ? Odd ! Seems contrived ? artificial ?
In the real Lake Pligneur, (which this event is patterned after), nearby Gulf Ocean water came rushing in. Would that be the case here ?
Theoretically, there could be a (salt) mine shaft directly below, but that doesn’t seem to be the case – Jimmy had been digging right there, as had those who placed the Gold there originally ?
The strip today, as does (May 4, 2015), show the sides of the Lake as having relatively steep banks, not land marginally above the water,
Then, I’d have to “write off” Jimmy taking the boat as simply, yet another, BAD choice, (panic?) - the river bed by Tellum’s house slopes slightly upward, best ‘Way Out’ - is the way he Came in, via his half truck vehicle.Oddly, the vehicle no longer seems to be there ? Short term, a higher and better site for Ted’s safety, than his current location
Hey! Wait a minute! With that eddy, the lake is dropping like crazy, but where dumbazz Tellum is standing, the water is coming up! Really? Like others are saying, why the heck doesn’t he have the sense to climb up instead of endangering a million dollar chopper and three more lives?
I doubt that Jimmy or Ted are aware of the whirlpool. It is a large lake and it is not certain that they are able to see the destruction from their vantage point inside a bay. The drilling rig was visible from Tellum’s house but Tellum took his boat to another part of the lake to do his bird watching.
@John Russell: thank you for your kind words. I just got home a short while ago. I reread my comment. You are correct. It was a typo. (I have developed problem in my left eye. Scar tissue has formed on the retina so I ignore the image from that eye. Surgery is scheduled for June 12. The doctor says the recovery will be slow). There’s no signs of the drilling rig or the platform anymore, just a big splash where they went down.

Ted Tellum is only there because he thought Choo Shooz needed help.
That said, he might ultimately be safer there than if he hadn’t succumbed to a fleeting flight of Samaritan fancy.
Hence, literal “Flight” is likely Ted’s best option for survival.
Will “The Friendly Fella’s” house go down with the ship, though?
Stay tuned.
