When I was in the service, I wanted a certain duty station and I got it but…. The But was that it was Instructor duty. I had to go to instructor school. The incentive of getting to go where I wanted made me learn how to talk to large groups. Best thing ever, I no longer fear speaking in public.
Reminds me of when we had to give the speech “Friends, Romans, Countrymen” in front of the class when I was in 10th grade. We had to memorize it and give it. I was so nervous, though I had memorized it perfectly. My knees were like Elly’s but my voice came out very strong and I wondered who that was! I got a very good grade though my knees felt like jelly! Later I did sing in public and after the first few times it becomes very easy like NeedaChuckle said.
Later, I was found sitting on the floor beside a table of half finished sandwiches singing to myself. It was a good lesson: booze and public speaking don’t mix.-—————————————————- Booze and non-drinkers don’’t mix. Public speaking only creates the circumstances where the two get together.
I know the feeling quite well. In speech class(mandatory) in college no podium) my knees shook so bad the other students were whispering among themselves. However, after 35 years of teaching “emergency medicine” (First Aid, EMT, Medical Self Help, etc.) I no longer have that problem.

Why do you think those boxy podiums exist?

Advice I got from a friend – “Always sound like you know what you’re doing.”

What was that old trick for public speaking? That Elly should just picture herself in her underwear?

Sayyyy. Looking good in that 2nd panel, Elly!

Yes. Probably USN1977 was just joking. (Maybe)
