Saturnâs density is 0.687 times that of water. Instead of floating like a beach-ball as illustrated, it would float with more than 2/3 of its volume submerged.
Tim Rickard seems to have thought the gag, âSaturn would float in a big enough tub, but it would leave a ring!â as not worthy of the intellectual level of this strip.
Poor Tim, heâs got the know-it-all patrol all over his little stripâŠincluding me! In addition to what everyone else pointed out, Jupiterâs ring is vertical.
And, Poolside, Jupiterâs ring isnât vertical, but Uranus has a vertical ring because its axis is tilted horizontally. (OK, now everybody start with the jokes.)
Newenglandah: Maybe that last day is really âSatyrâs Dayâ; when the work week ends, everybody says âThank god this frigginâ dayâs overâ and they start carrying on like satyrs.
In antiquity there were seven visible âplanetsâ including the Sun and the Moon, plus Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. Uranus and Neptune, let alone Pluto, were unknown, because they canât be seen by the naked eye.
These planets werenât ânamed afterâ gods, they were worshipped AS gods. On a level which I donât pretend to understand (yet), their anthropomorphic forms and their astral forms were essentially two aspects of the same deities.
So in shorthand, yes, âSaturn is where we get the name âSaturdayâ.â Saturn was a god, whose astral form was the seventh visible âplanetâ.

Saturn doesnât have merely 60 moons. There are billions of them, collectively known as Saturnâs Rings.

I donât get it - if the days of the week were named after planets, we would have nine days in a week - right?
Well, except now, Pluday would be gone - there went the weekend!

There used to be a tub big enough for Saturn, on Mount Olympus. But another god kept using it.
âHey, get Uranus out of that tub!â

But does Uranus stay crunchy in milk?
