Not to be a spoilsport, but the First Nations consider dandelions a very useful plant. The dried roots can be roasted and ground, and make a decent (not good necessarily, but decent) substitute for coffee. The young leaves are very tasty in salads, died for tea, and can also be eaten cooked. Boiled in water, it was/is used to treat kidney disease, and edema. It can also help if a mother is not producing enough milk, and has no effect on the baby.
Also not to be a spoilsport, but the dandelion is in fact not native to North America, and is thought to have been deliberately introduced because its uses were known in Europe.
