How did you enjoy your free hour while the students were at lunch? Free hour? Hardly. I graded papers, worked on lesson plans and updated my school webpage. When you're a teacher, there's no such thing as a free lunch.
Heck, most teachers don’t even get an hour for lunch! If it weren’t for planning periods, they’d hardly get any work done during the school day. And they still take work home! And when I subbed in middle school (where this supposedly takes place), I had to accompany the kids to lunch and herd them back again. In some odd cases, I’d herd the kids downstairs and was then expected back upstairs for a working lunch with the rest of the teaching team (even as a sub!); then I’d have to go downstairs (as we all would) and herd our kids back upstairs.

Nothing is ever free. It may not cost the person receiving it but it costs the person providing it.

Since when do teachers get an hour lunch? I get 30 min. When I’m lucky.
