Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson for June 09, 2015
June 08, 2015
June 10, 2015
Transcript:
Calvin: "Ouchywawa"
Calvin: "I've got a big owwy boo boo on my pinky"
Mom: "That's too bad"
Calvin: "When your ailments sound cute, you don't get much sympathy"
I cut my thumb to the bone, thought Dad would take me for stitches but as he had other things going on it didnât happen. Gave me his handkerchief, said wrap it up and move on. Life as a military brat!
We had lots of injuries in our house â both growing up and raising my own kids. Generally, when we heard big thuds or screams, the first question out of our mouths was, âAny blood?â
By running a Google image search for âplush hobbesâ you will find that there is a very large variety of homemade versions out there â mostly ones that people have made for themselves. There are no legitimate Calvins or Hobbeses for sale.Click here: Google image search for plush hobbes
Calvin: âMammy, Mammy, me got gweat big owwy boo-boo on me knee!ââGo wash it in soap and water, put a Band-Aid on it, and stop being silly.âC: âAnd yet another attempt at sympathy goes âPhllllllppp!ââ
My Hobbes is not bootlegged. It is a fan creation. The tag that came with it did not mention Hobbes at all. It might have been an issue if it had, the tiger looks like Hobbes. I guess they were able to get away with it by calling it a tiger. The picture is here.
If Watterson is so adamant about trademark infringements, and I have zero argument with this policy, how does the comic strip containing âHobbes and Baconâ get away with it?
Itâs all a matter of perspective. When I had my knee surgery I looked at the staples and thought, âYech, that looks ugly.â My wife (a nurse) came by a couple of minutes later and looked at them and said, âHey, those are looking good.â I guess nurses are used to looking a yechy things.
@GretchensMom: Good to see you visiting. That comic strip reminds me of the scene in the Wizard of Oz after the flying monkeys attacked the Scarecrow. Looks like Hobbes will need some joint replacements.
Suck it up and quit whining, Calvin. Itâs a long ways from your heart. I broke my arm as a kid and didnât know it until a doctor asked me about 30 years later.

I got a plush Hobbes for my 24th birthday yesterday. My brother got it for me off eBay. I asked him to get it for me.

Children~ the result of unskilled labor. Perhaps Calvin has Hobbs because his parents are incapable of acting like parents.

The most natural thing for any 6 year old boy to get is a boo-boo.
Iâve had my fair share. I still get them because Iâm such a careless person.

Hobbes, isnât it weird how there are two of us on here now? I guess you could say I came from Calvinâs duplicator machine. LOL.

Someone wished âHappy Birthdayâ to Hobbes today; however, there is another cartoon birthday to celebrate:
Itâs Donald Duckâs birthday today! Heâs 81 years young on June 9, 2015âŠ
