Would you feel better if it was a car?

That’s going to cost you an arm and a leg in postage.

If you think that’s a good goal, Calvin, wait until Dad teaches you how to drive a car. Actually, Dad will probably know better ten years from now…

The problem is, you put that damn helmet on him. If it wasn’t for that, he wouldn’t think there was a chance something could go wrong. Kids lasted a thousand years without helmets riding bikes, don’t go changing it now!

Usually I relate to Calvin, but it always confounded me why he is so anti-bike. I learned to ride around age 6, and I was off exploring the world on my old Schwinn. Poor Calvin doesn’t realize the freedom a bike can give a kid. Still a funny cartoon!

I’m with Downundergirl on this. Sure, I fell off my bike a couple times. But I got back on and tried again. If this keeps up, Calvin will be the only teenager on a tricycle. The insults alone from other teenagers will hurt more than falling off any bike.

In his mind (and as some comics may suggest, in reality), his bike wants to pretty much murder him.

Dad, Calvin’s not ready to learn to ride. Put the bike away. He’ll ride it when he’s ready.

Maybe the bike is Calvin’s kite? Some things can just confound a kid!

This from the kid who thinks nothing of flying down the hill in his wagon with Hobbes!

You have to realize that Calvin is into all sorts of death-defying pursuits . . . except on a bike. Could it be that this is yet another dig at Calvin’s dad who* is a recreational cyclist?

Considering that Calvin once got his face caught in the bike chain, I’m convinced that his determination to never ride a bike is completely justified.

Dad, Calvin needs motivation. I can think of three sorts:1) Susie rides by on her bike.2) Neighborhood bully rides by on his bike.3) Offer him snowballs you’ve kept in the freezer

I was riding a bike at Calvin’s age, and it was fine…

…until I got a go-cart; then, watch out world, I have horsepower now!

I find this arc ironic considering the sled rides Calvin takes.

Unlike Calvin’s bike, Calvin’s sled was not alive.

remember that dad rides a bicycle. So, to Calvin, bikes are for nerds. Not to mention, it hurts when you crash.

He can’t touch the ground while on the seat. That would worry me too
