It appears that the car ended up a couple of feet higher than the road surface; with no sign of a jump ramp… how did that happen and how do you explain it to the authorities?

Isn’t anybody concerned about what is keeping the car from falling off? It doesn’t seem to have much of a grip! Hey, I’m sure Wiley really appreciates our picking apart his cartoon……

That should have read: “Another reason why there’s a need for the self-driving automobile.”

As a retired paramedic I can assure you that it is not unusual for a car to go up when it comes loose. I once watched a Saab go suddenly twenty feet into the air when it tripped and got its feet tangled together. In another incident I myself rode my motorcycle about twelve feet up into the air when the front wheel got caught in an invisible thing called physics. The Saab driver was dead the instant he hit the ground, and I was nearly so. When you instantly stop momentum, the energy is going to expend itself somehow,

Interesting that more people are debating the physics of how the car got where it is, than the political implications of which side is represented by the speaker. My take: As usual, Wiley has managed to leave the interpretation completely open to whatever prejudices the reader started with. :-)

“it’s your fault I did that. You made me do that”. International political scene at its best. Domestic terrorism justification too.Whether Wiley meant it that way or not.

I was driving a 72(?) Bug, and I was hit broad side. The witness said the car went sideways and rolled on to it’s side and then flipped 20 feet in the air. It came down on roof. I was very glad I had on my seat belt.

I would think that the driver is Sam Brownback but I don’t remember seeing scenery like this in Kansas (or any scenery in Kansas…….)

The bigger question is why, with the car having only two wheels on the mesa that it hasn’t tipped over and fallen down. This is apparently the American Southwest, and the Wyle E. Coyote effect is in force.

Either that, or the car is holding on for dear life with those two front wheels.

Nightshade, thanks for pointing out the tire tracks, I too, thought the butte (and it is a beaut!), was actually in the background…and Wiley, thanks for popping into the conversation occasionally, I think we all appreciate that….

the real “perspective” to consider, is that in the U..S. only about 1% of people are taught to drive before getting llicenses to drive, and over 50% remain using cell pnones, even when illegal!

Being a cartoon is not the defacto reason for what appears to be unrealistic.-——————————————-I’ve just been seeing a number of comments on GoComics lately asking, “how could (insert impossible thing here) happen as shown?”And in almost every instance the obvious answer was, “It’s a comic strip, you bonehead!” (You know the type: “How can that cat possibly go bowling when his fingers aren’t long enough to…?”)So when I saw the question, “how did the car…?” I said two possibilities.Being a cartoon was #2; #1 was visual prospective. And had I seen Wiley’s comment to that effect, I wouldn’t have bothered responding.

More likely the Now Missing support post for that guard rail..I was once 30 Yards Behind a car that went off the road and hit a Bridge Abutment. The Car went Airborne, sailed about 15 yards through the air while Flipping over and landed on the Roof prior to skidding another 10 to 15 yards on the pavement. The Airborne part was a result of riding Up and Over the Abutment which, luckily for the driver, also flipped the car back onto the Road.Because the Drop to the River was a nice Long one.Lucky for the Driver because, when he crawled out of the crushed car, he didn’t have a scratch on him.If he’d gone into the Water, the witness who yanked the Door open for him wouldn’t have been able to reach it and he’d probably have Drowned..
