The first idea is the right one. The fouled team keeps possession after the free throw.Basketball is the only sport where someone fouls in an attempt to get an advantage.Just flat out idiotic!
How about every time a specific player is fouled they are given an extra 2 free throws and those free throws will have increasing points valueOpposing team targets a certain player and fouls him 6 times he is going to have twelve attempts, the first two will be at 1 point each while attempts 11 and 12 will be at 6 points each.
How about two shots and possession only if you foul someone without the ball. If the poor free throw shooter (the Shaq) has the ball and is fouled, his team is penalized for his inability to make a foul shot, as they should be and the fouling team is not penalized, but rather rewarded if he misses his free throws.
Keep it simple. Either a team that is awarded free throws can opt for possession at half court instead OR like for free/penalty kicks in soccer/football, they get to choose who takes the free throws. Fouls should never be advantageous to the fouling team.
The “Hack-a-Shrimp” strategy would probably backfire. That “Shrimp” wouldn’t BE on the Team if he wasn’t Really Good. Unlike some of the guys who are so tall that all they need to do is walk up to the net and drop the ball in..
