UBER is a a sort of private taxi service. Anyone that has a valid license and their own car can sign with UBER and become their own taxi service.

Used Uber in San Jose. Great driver, fast and friendly service. You can do all the checking you want ahead of time.

They’ve had them in New York City for about 100 years. They were called “gypsy cabs.” Real cabs have permits issued by the city and they are limited and the bids for them can be quite high. You have to wait for a “registered” cab to sell it.

Competition isn’t supposed to be easy. That’s why established taxi companies hate Uber: Consumers have one more choice besides them. Nobody is being forced to patronize either Uber OR Yellow Cab. Let the market decide this.

STOP THE FUTURE..All we really know regarding what the future holds is that some will oppose whatever it is and some will try to regulate it into non existence.Oh, and that others will benefit despite the best efforts of the antis.

I own a cab company. I actually have no problem with competition from anyone (there are 10 cab companies in my city) as long as we play by the same set of rules. Uber and Lyft do not. They do not have to have the same permits and stickers and insurance limits and drug & background checks (all of which i pay for) as a standard taxi does, yet they are allowed to do the same business. If they abolish all the standards for taxis or make Uber pay the same fees then I’m fine with them. To allow one company to essentially “cheat” is not fair business practice and I will do anything I can to see them abolished or play by the same rules.
