Opal also forgot to mention that Earl didn’t shave. Sometimes when I don’t shave (for church or on my work days off), sometimes I say maybe I’m trying to be like my Amish forefathers (although it’s the married Amish men who don’t shave and bachelor Amish men do shave).
Someone needs to explain to Opal that only women care about shoes. Men can walk around with kleenex boxes on their feet and other men won’t even notice.
there is a line on the “casual” dress thing. I have seen many of the young folks in our church dressed in shorts and flip flops in the summer time, and I guess for young folks that is fine but I agree it is a sign of respect to at least dress in “work Casual” for church. A total sign of disrespect would be when my X showed up for our grandsons wedding, which he did not approve of, in jeans and a golf shirt and sneakers. NOT COOL…………and he got told about it too!
If a church is a place to meet with GOD then do you want to meet him like that?On the other hand GOD already knows you and has accepted you as you are.
" Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after…".She’s just trying to shut you out, Earl. No, she’s just embarrassed by Earl. No, she’s just trying to help him fit in.
You do not have to dress up for church. I remember going to church in coveralls before work(they were well stained). If you go to church to impress others, dress for it. If you go to church because you want to worship, it really doesn’t matter.
A wrinkled shirt and unpolished shoes are not a problem, but changing his tie would have fixed him for church. What bothers me is young women in short shorts and low necked shirts in church. One woman dressed in the shortest of shorts and she was barefoot. If you ask why a ninja like person is bothered by this, it is true that in Japan people dress more conservatively at church, even though teenagers are allowed to be more casual.
For me, church casual is a collared polo shirt and a good pair of pants, no tie, no jacket, and the shirt is open at the top, but I always make sure they’re clean for church.

At least he will be beside her, and not under the sod. Be grateful for what you do have, Opal.

1.You can be over-dressed for the occasion, but never too well-dressed for the occasion.
