I think it’s a great idea to have the mimes, and hope they are effective. Even without speaking they have a voice.

    If a tree falls in a forest…

    …and it lands on a mime…

    …does anyone care?

Art speaks in many ways, even without a voice.

I like Vetinari´s (Discworld) attitude to mime and street artists.

Near where I lived there was a church that closed down due to lack of attendance. Since people agitate for schools, libraries, theatres and dance troupes to be funded by tax money, I was a bit surprised why no one did this for the church and figured if the church closes its doors, it closes its doors. Don’t churches play a vital role in the community?

Here in Hancock County, Illinois there are numerous cemeteries where churches used to stand. As farms got bigger and more mechanized and fewer people needed to operate them, small villages vanished.

Churches are non-profit organizations, as their money goes to overhead expenses and their mission of serving and evangelizing. Some churches definitely abuse their tax-exempt status, just like other organizations do, but most do not. The tax-exempt status allows churches to work free of the tax burden and to put that money toward serving the community and focusing on their ministry. The tax-exempt status, in spirit, fulfills the First Amendment right to “free exercise” of religion.

The mimes could be an advantage. An indoor theater could, at the very least, get them off the street, although they would appear only in variety shows, and those of exceptional quality at that.
