Hmmm… yesterday, The Blank/Johnny Nothing had a gun in his left hand and the tomahawk in his right hand. Today, he has both hands on the, now larger, tomahawk!
“Let’s do a little survey: Who do you think is the shooter in the last panel? I’ve seen this week’s strips, so I’ll disqualify myself.”
So how does one get a sneak peak at the strips before they appear? Doesn’t that double the agony?
To borrow a line from Firesign Theatre: Today’s recap of Sunday’s recap of the previous week’s recap was approved by the Department of Redundancy Department.

WE ARE NOT ALONE.
P.S. Yesterday the gun went ‘POW’, but today it went ‘POW !’ so it is already more dramatic.
And in panel 1, we see only the axe, but in panel 2 we see he dropped both the axe and the gun (plus the mask, which had somehow managed to stay on until this point). Panel 2 today appears to be the exact same artwork from the last panel yesterday, so the artist is as lazy as the writer.
The current Dick Tracy storyline, in which one of Dick’s old adversaries (or possibly said adversary’s grandson) has gone to all the trouble of being cast opposite Dick in a dramatic re-enactment of one of his old cases just so he can murder the detective and one or more bystanders in front of hundreds of onlookers, is painfully dumb, dumber than usual for this feature
btmosley, you have to understand that the shooter is incredibly accurate: he or she not only sent the bullet through Johnny’s body so as to shoot the gun out of the pocket or holster or wherever he had put it while he was wielding the axe with both hands, but did so in such a way that the ricochet knocked the mask off. And this with a handgun at the outer limit of its range!
Just another great strip today! A fun chase sequence and a great cliff-hanger. Great Stuff! Just enough of a cliff-hanger to keep us guessing without giving away the next day’s surprise.
Sunday’s color strip seems to be a recap of last week’s action at the museum with a new cliffhanger to end the week. Today strip sets up the week with a retelling of Sunday’s cliffhanger (with added dialogue). Not everyone can read everyday.
Not really that complicated.
And as in all cliffhangers, the resolution always includes a cheat, that the reader didn’t see coming ( the reader didn’t see it coming, because it was never there ). See Indiana Jones and all the serials that influenced a generation.
The shooter could be Anja Nu. She did tell the boys to stop playing and get back on the stage. She’ll get ‘em there if she has to shoot them! After all, it’s time to end the intermission and get back to the show she worked on for years!

Didn’t this happen yesterday?
Wait, what am I thinking? This is the beginning of the week-long, daily recap of the most recent Sunday recap.
Which could, of course, cause us to become trapped in an endless loop time paradox or something.
In which case, this story arc would continue into eternity, for an infinite number of days.

No, wait. We’re safe. It’s only another Dick Tracy recap of a recap of a recap for those with short-term memory loss.

Because of the gun’s size, and the angle of the shot, it appears to be shooting a figurine off of a model airplane.

Radish
Not likely, Unless you were pulling a Rip Van Winkle. Should take about 10 minutes to catch up.

“RECAPS” ? Today’s daily from a Sunday ?
Later in the story you’ll see a Sunday page ‘recaping’ the previous Sunday which was a ‘recap’ of the earlier Monday to Saturday daily strips. ;-)
