Boy: Dad, what are taxes? Man: That's when the government takes part of your money and makes it their money. Boy: Sort of like when you sneak money out of mom's purse, and go buy yourself a golf club? Man: Pretty much.
93.4% (you can make up your own number; the point remains the same) of what government taxes you for is stuff that used to be done without taxation and which doesn’t have to be enforced involuntarily if people would re-learn what it means to be a free country.
Remember the “Soviet Pickle Fallacy”: (in your best imitation Russian accent) “Eef glorious Soviet government deed not supply peekles, dare vould be no peekles!”
@FishDog93 — Going for social programs? You mean like wars to enrich the “defense contractors” of the military-industrial complex? You mean like corporate welfare to enrich billionaire owners of sports franchises for entertainment and games? You mean to gouge middle class tax payers so the few richest elites can pay lower tax rates on the investment profits and nothing on what they squirrel away in tax shelters, loopholes, exemptions, deductions and offshore tax havens? Maybe it would be better if we used that money to fund roads, bridges, hospitals, health care (you know, public health and safety every bit as critical to life and death every bit as much as police, fire and emergency first responders … and, yeah, helping the neediest among us through a tough time and transitioning back into productivity.
