My husband & I decided, when our girls started school, that we would not give monetary rewards for “A’s”. Good thing we did, otherwise we’d be broke. Our older daughter finished high school 3rd in her class & her little sister finished 5th.
We tried that for two years in middle school. We paid for A’s and for making honor roll. Our kiddo did pretty well academically, but it fed her anxiety to a ridiculous degree and we had to stop.

Whenever we went to my academic awards dinners in high school, Dad would say he never put his parents through that.
