I’ll bet the tobacco salesman and shock jock are paying their fair share of taxes. I’ll bet Rosa is NOT paying taxes on the money she earns and IS taking advantage of the social services paid for with other people’s tax money.
Rosa is most likely receiving less than minimum wage. She is taking a job that a person here legal could have. She has violated our nations laws by entering the nation illegally.
Rosa is here to give her family a better life than she had in her country of origin. We should have a very liberal immigration policy and imprison those people who hire illegal immigrants and throw the keys away for those employees who pay their illegal immigrants less than the minimum wage.
If Rosa is so useful to society why doesn’t she come in the legal way and support the US the correct way. I would take a shock jock and tobacco salesman over someone who is doing something illegal anyday.
Crime does not pay and Rosa is breaking the law everyday
My Great-grandparents come over from Italy to Ellis Island and did not know a soul or a bit of English. They did it the right and legal way. Why can’t the illegals of today do it the right way?
I live in Arizona and I am proud of the new law IF it is used the way it is intended.
Mell, up to this moment, you have done a good job keeping politics out of your strip. I looked forward to reading it every day. Please go back to keeping the politics out.
Oh you mean like that Harvard student they want to deport. The one who has never lived in Mexico and is a genius in science – who might be a real asset to our country someday.
If you check out the site below you will find out that most of these folks you want to send back to Mexico ARE paying taxes (which is more than we can say for something like 51% of Americans).
I hope Rosa moves in next to you idiots who think this is so great, and fills up her yard with garbage, cars on cinder blocks that will nevre run and I hope she never mows he lawn. I hope she brings down your property value, feeds your dog to her pit bulls, and makes you move your kids’ bedrooms to the back room because of the drive by shootings she brings to your neighborhoods. You’ll wish you were in Arizona. Idiots! Illegal is illegal. These people bring drug violence and terrorism to all of the border states They kidnap and kill Americans. They cut their heads off and shoot them. They shot and killed the farmer who helped them get in. You all have PC up your wazoos! Idiots! In the end, they send all the money which is far from minimum wage, back to Mexico, and they go back there to live like kings off the US dollar. They don’t work cheap, they don’t pay taxes, and you pay for their kids’ education, and their State welfare paid healthcare.
I was in the men’s room today, where some Mexican was speaking only spanish to his kids. He couldn’t even swear at me in English when I told him it would behoove his kids to know some English, since it’s the language here. I’m in Rhode Island. They have a long way back to the border where they belong.
Go Arizona! They want federal law enforced. What a concept. So does 90% of this country, so I don’t believe the PC idiots trying to have it both ways in these comments, unless you’re a bunch of illegal criminals too.
Well, of course, those who disagree with “Momma’a” sentiments are outraged and those who concur are delighted to have this issue brought up in the comic strip. Obviously it took no small amount of courage for Mel to do this, judging by most of the responses here, so I assume he must feel strongly enough about it to risk alienating many of his readers. I have to say that, given what an outspoken, hyper-judgemental, opinionated person “Momma” has always been, it doesn’t really seem out of character for her to let the world know what she thinks about this issue, whether anyone agrees with her or not. It is a difficult, complicated issue for those of us who see the people involved as complicated individuals, and I think I understand the reasons on both sides of the argument, but I sure bristle at comments that make it sound like every one of “they” or “those people” are all exactly the same, any more than all “legal” U.S. citizens could all be alike, for good or for bad. This sounds like the very definition of racism.
Racism, racism! The only liberal defense, since they never have a valid one. Illegal is illegal, and constantly crying racism is a lousy excuse for condoning evading the laws of this country. Laws which Mexico also has, only stricter. They have no problem enforcing them against you . Are they racist for enforcing their border laws against you? Racism? Try again. Try a lot harder this time and leave the buzzwords out.
My husband is from England and did it the “legal” way. It took 5 years and thousands of dollars – along with several threats of deportation when paperwork didn’t come thru at the right time.
We live not far from “white trash” who have cars parked all over the place, never mow the lawn and speak something no one understands – and they don’t have to worry about being here “legally.” One family even tried to sell their 3 year old kid several years ago. It’s not the immigrants legal or otherwise, that are running the country into the ground. It’s ignorance.

She’s more useful than the judgmental old woman she works for, too. And if she doesn’t work for you, what are you doing in that house?

Since when has society provided financial rewards on the basis of the social value of what one does?
