Not just California. This year every state in the Northwest, the Southwest, and the Southeast, and half the states in the Midwest, have had major fires. Idaho was hit the hardest. It has been the worst fire-season in the history of the USA. About time Mr. Evans addressed it, considering he has firefighters in his comic.

I think the cap finally has heard back from the investigation team about a possible fraud involving a food truck and someone nick-named T.J.

It has passed a year for us, loyal readers, but in Luannâs continuity, who can tell how much time has passed? Maybe it has been two months, reasonable time to conduct an investigation.

What! No doughnut?!?! I thought all first responders required pastry for their meetings. (Rule for good attendance: 1 less doughnut than people you expect to be there.)

Rather than returning to any of the many. many hanging arcs, it looks like we may be beginning a totally new one.

Sheriff Mordecai said, yesterdayNo one here âknowsâ to what degree Karenâs collaboration is visible to us, whereas an artistâs hand is plainly evident. What an axe grinder. . . . -ââââââââââââââ-The only evidence we have is while the art is as good as ever, perhaps even better, the story-lines more recently seem to go nowhere, and the characters become inconsistent.

There are perhaps too many open story-lines. .Todayâs strip may show the beginning of yet another..Of course, many story-lines (ones that we may think still open) will never be returned to. .Abandonment of an interesting plot idea in mid stream is a sign of flightiness on the part on any author.

âJust the presence of the rifle there, used or not, would tend to point to the idea that the person who owns it may be more of the type that would defend his family if the need arose, was a hunter, or both. Itâs presence alone could possibly be an indicator as to how itâs owner thinks, and that may be important to a story line..I keep a rifle and two guns in the house that I hope to never have to fireâŠâ
TouchĂ©! That makes perfect sense to me. That comment piqued my interest, but I didnât think about it too much because I was just skimming through the last few daysâ comments really fast. You said it perfectly :)

How would you know that these particular fire fighters havenât been trained to deal with wild fires (which is what is happening in the west right now; not just limited to forested areas. Drought has caused any vegetated area to become like tinder.)
In a state like California where wildfires are a common problem, it would be surprising if a particular cityâs fire fighters didnât get training in how to manage them.

I am still unpublished, but get promising responses to stories I submit. I also participate in writerâs groups with people who have been published, and I figure they know more about all this than I do.
While the basics of a story are supposed to involve a character facing some kind of conflict and that characterâs response to it changes (or doesnât change) the character, there is a also a basic type of story called âslice of lifeâ. The New Yorker Magazine publishes a lot of these.
Personally, I donât find âslice of lifeâ interesting, because I prefer character-driven stories with action. But there is a definite market for âslice of lifeâ , and what that type of story is, which is primarily descriptive.
One member of our writerâs group specializes in this, and sheâs very good at it. Most of what she concentrates on are descriptions about natural areas. Even though there is ânothing happeningâ, i.e., no one pollutes the area or tries to dig it up and build a shopping mall, or what, the descriptions are amazing. You feel like you are seeing the place, smelling it, touching it.
So describing something can be done successfully without a conflict situation being involved.
